WUWT does a crazy flip, shuts down

Posted: July 27, 2012 by tchannon in Blog

Sorry for the delay, many others knew earlier.

We have grand reason to speculate what is going on at WUWT which has been shut down by Anthony until Sunday when an announcement is going to be made. A major blog like that with many contributors and moderators?

[update]  reading Watts update and being similar in age (way I take his words) it looks more likely any announcement will be underwhelming unless the exact subject is your thing. [/update]

Immediately prior WUWT post which trails into speculation

One suggestion doing the rounds is FOIA has dropped the password or someone has cracked the archive. For that reason I am making a statement given FOIA dropped a link here late last year.

As of the time of posting there has been no FOIA contact here in any way shape or form, nothing. (unless Rog dropped in and deleted out of my sight which seems ridiculous)

I spoke to Rog earlier in the week, he is fine. Been away (nothing sinister and he’d warned me a little while ago) but now he has lots of other business he really ought to be doing so I am continuing to hold the fort.

Strikes me as slightly odd this happens at the same time as a crazy media-fest in England, taking most eyes off the ball, as well as the start of a weekend.

Do you think he might be calling it quits?

I wonder if could have something to do with solar panels.

M.M. has been detained by skeptics at an undisclosed location, and waterboarded, resulting in numerous spectacular revelations. Transcripts to be published on Sunday, July 29!!

    Or SLT.

Question: If anthropogenic global warming is such a serious issue, why are we still carrying out huge events like the olympics and soccer world cup? Can you just imagine the amount of carbon dioxide being spewed out by humans and planes? Funnily enough, the current olympc opening ceremony celebrated the industrial revolution, complete with carbon-spewing chimneys. I would like to see London’s carbon offset plan audited once the olympics are done.

Stupid politicians. You tell the public one thing but you do the exact opposite. How do you expect people to believe you, or to take AGW seriously?

Example: Al Gore. You tell people that rising sea levels will wipe out coastal areas, but you then go and buy beachfront property. You demonize carbon dioxide yet deem it appropriate to keep your rented car engine running outside for over an hour, while lecturing students inside about global warming.

See what people do, not what they say.

Only 28 and a half more hours to go to find out. [taps…whistles]

“…I would like to see London’s carbon offset plan audited once the Olympics are done…”

    London Olympics Drops Carbon-Offset Plan

There you go… The ‘official’ plan was too expensive, so adopting an own-grown plan which is cheaper and easier to renege when there is no-one looking. Good thing too, IMO, as this event is expensive enough already and we have yet to see real evidence that CO2 is anything but good for the environment.

As it reads at the left column: WUWT: Lukewarm Cornflakes…..Perhaps it will decide definetely to openly change from apostasy to belief.

  9. Ally E. says:

I really want to see Anthony Watts the new head of the IPCC. 🙂

  10. Rob Dekker says:

There is no need for Anthony to shut down his site completely, even when he goes on vacation or has to prepare a major announcement, or even if he is to run for president or found a cure to cancer or so. It’s kind of annoying actually. What’s up with Anthony ? ADD ?

  11. sunsettommy says:

Come on you guys he made it clear it is over one of his many projects.

Therefore it is from his own effort that he wants to showcase as being something special for us that is above his usual blog entries.

I think he creating a deliberate hook and most of you guys have fallen hard for it.

  12. tchannon says:

    Odd in’it?
Could be he didn’t understand the effect of what he was doing.

I hope it is worth it. A side effect is chilling activity elsewhere.

  13. björn says:

To me his weather station project is somehow made influential in climate politics, ie IPCC. Urban heating is a factor?

  14. Zeke says:

    NOAA has been found out.

“These factors, combined with station siting issues, have led to a spurious doubling of U.S. mean temperature trends in the 30 year data period covered by the study from 1979 – 2008.

Other findings include, but are not limited to:

    · Statistically significant differences between compliant and non-compliant stations exist, as well as urban and rural stations.

    · Poorly sited station trends are adjusted sharply upward, and well sited stations are adjusted upward to match the already-adjusted poor stations.

    · Well sited rural stations show a warming nearly three times greater after NOAA adjustment is applied.

    · Urban sites warm more rapidly than semi-urban sites, which in turn warm more rapidly than rural sites.”

I am reading the abstract now.
