WMO03918, Castor Bay, Northern Ireland

54 30 00N 06 20 00W
Altitude, unknown.

There is an very indistinct possible. Image enhancement doesn’t help much.

This is a critical site. It is or was an upper air station, ie. significant, only a few of those. Therefore where is the launch site and storage building?

The location is very strange. Castor Bay on on Lough Neagh a large freshwater lake.

The site indicated is next to one of the largest drinking water plants in NI. with news this plant is being expanded. Compare image here with aerial http://www.niwater.com/alphaproject.asp

Aerial images are poor. Surface roads are too remote.

  1. Caz says:

The white golf ball radome to the top right behind the water treatment works houses the Met office’s Castor Bay weather radar.

I confirm the weather radar coverage map has a sector centred here. Might add the image later.

[update] Oh! The image showing the works entrance also shows the radome, I hadn’t spotted it.
