Galileo Movement Video: It’s Steam – Stupid

One of my pet peeves is the way the media always use images of power stations shot from an angle at a time of day when the steam condensate coming out of cooling towers is made to look like smoke. I mentioned it quite recently as being at the top of my list of annoyances about the way climate and energy issues are reported. Now the Galileo Movement in Australia has made a nice short (2min) video to alert the public to the way they are being lied to, manipulated and deceived.

Some other vids by the Galileo Movement contain some misapprehensions of the science, but this one is very clear and makes its point fairly, and well.

It’s the same old, same old. He who controls the media controls the info and the 97% of the idiotic public.

I’ve lost count of the number times I’ve complained to the Beeb about deceitful photos included in Harrabin’s reports.

Visible particulates from chimneys being prohibited under our Clean Air Act.

  5. One of the greatest deceipts of the wind industry. Well presented! What amazes me is how many councillors and politicians have been so misled and who still are so ignorant of this.

Note the mention of ‘dark steam’ here, after ‘[insert image] ‘.

  7. Climatism says:

Reblogged this on CACA and commented:
Most modern or upgraded coal-fire plants, mainly from the west, are required under strict regulations to remove 99% of particulates known as fly-ash.
This is why the air in modern cities like Melbourne, Sydney, America and Europe have some of the cleanest air in the world. Compared with the chronically polluted cities of China, SE Asia and the sub-continent, who aren’t required to adhere to strict ‘particulate’ emission standards.
Other underdeveloped countries simply cannot afford to retro-fit their existing plants to make them clean or simply do without to keep costs down.

Another example of why the greatest driver of environmental health is economic prosperity. If you want a healthy environment, you need a healthy economy.

Draconian climate policy threatens the wealth and prosperity of western economies. Potentially limiting the ability to divert excess capital to innovate and keep improving the overall environment.

  8. John in France says:

Like Joe Public, I have been going on about this for years.

Well Galileo should at least get their facts straight. Isn’t the purpose of a cooling tower to condense the low pressure steam at the end of each closed circuit power cycle into water that they send it round again through the steam generator whereas they’re implying it’s exhaust steam?

And what we see pothering from these towers is not steam, which is an invisible gas, but water vapour droplets suspended in the air.

All the videos I have seen from Galileo have been frankly atrocious and do scepticim no service. They really ought to get their act together

  9. hunter says:

Why should the AGW/enviro movement be concerned about integrity at this late date?
They have nearly won everything they want without worrying about pesky things like honesty and integrity.
