Profiting from the proles.
(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
Flood-hit residents in Christchurch Dorset have been told by their Tory-run Council that they have to buy sandbags at £30 for a pack of four.
They have twice written to their MP – Conservative Christopher Chope – to request a meeting to explain their frustrations, but he has ignored them.
Here’s the story reproduced in full from the Bournemouth Echo:
Angry residents blast council
ANGRY residents in a flood-hit flat block have blasted a “total lack of support” from Christchurch council and their MP, writes Melanie Vass.
Residents in Conifer Close – some of whom were evacuated on Christmas Day – say they are the “forgotten corner” of Christchurch and living in fear of further flooding.
While PM David Cameron promises that “money is no object” when it comes to helping flood victims, Conifer Close residents have had to buy their own sandbags…

Jesus wept, what will it take to wake up the Brits, there should be 500 pitchforked politicians swinging from lamposts.
Ukip for me next time round.
Tallbloke position of the polar vortex is threatening the UK.

This is daft. I’m sure it’s cheaper at B&Q!

Sorry about the long URL. 😦 Now just buy a ‘cheap’ suitably sized sack. 🙂
This seems like a local/regional council treating its community like a consumer for a commodity that they are ‘marketing’. Shame on them (the Tory party, that is)!
Best regards, Ray.
This is not portrayed correctly: in the judgement of the authority there is no imperative and therefore the request is for the supply of goods.
Sure hope for the authorities sake that if an imperative arises there is time to fully act, otherwise there will be lawyers asking.

Tomorrow is I think break day hereabouts if it rains too much. One place I was watching closely, river level has dropped back after the rain I mentioned, literally dealing with touch and go inch or two. (not here where there is no chance of flood) but someone close.
More generally the river has started leaking through a critical bank, a cockup at a new **uncontrolled** weir which replaced controlled. Idiots. Only control is wide open and yes there is space for raising the flow.
If that gives way oh boy. At 20hrs I drove through running water. In 50 years I have never known a breach there, never was a problem and this is not about freeboard so much as incorrect flow.

I don’t believe it. Please supply corroborative evidence ren.
Your link;
is ‘kilometres’ above the UK’s weather systems (sigh). Readers can get some idea of ‘pressure:altitude’ from here;
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/air-altitude-pressure-d_462.html
where ‘hPa’ = 1/1000 ‘kPa’.
A ‘Hecto Pascal’ (hPa) is multiplied by 1,000 to the definition of ‘0.001 kPa’ in accepted terminology.
This places your observation at ~15000 m above Earth’s surface. What is your ‘teleconnection’ system that purports to exchange energy with the lower, near surface, atmosphere?
Best regards, Ray.
@ Tim
A band of very heavy rain is moving up from the south-west.

You do not have to believe, see and pull out the requests.
I do not understand why you do not appreciate the strength of the winter vortex and its effect on the jet stream. After all the jet stream is at the edge of the polar vortex. Not really understand scientists. Changes have always been, but now because of the sun are stronger. Is there really no one sees?
The situation may improve for four days, the vortex will change position.

Sorry.

Councils warned not to charge for sandbags.

This winter may be more of surprises.

Bastards.
Oh well, it should ensure a few more UKIP votes, at any rate.
