The Cleansing of Lennart Bengtsson

Steve McKintyre on the fatwa imposed on Lennart Bengtsson by the climate ‘community’.

Climate Audit

Recently, Lennart Bengtsson undertook a positive dialogue with climate skeptics by joining the advisory board of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, an organization that attempts to represent rational skepticism.

Instead of welcoming this initiative, the climate “community” has now cleansed Lennart Bengtsson by pressuring him to resign from the GWPF advisory board. Bengtsson’s discouraging resignation is at Klimaz Weibel here (h/t Bishop Hill).

I have been put under such an enormous group pressure in recent days from all over the world that has become virtually unbearable to me. If this is going to continue I will be unable to conduct my normal work and will even start to worry about my health and safety. I see therefore no other way out therefore than resigning from GWPF. I had not expecting such an enormous world-wide pressure put at me from a community that I have been close to all my active…

What is even more discouraging are some – thank God only very few, but even those are too many – comments insinuating that he should’ve known this would happen, given that the people at GWPF are ‘kooks’ …

  2. oldbrew says:

The name of this game is intimidation. Nothing to do with science itself.

  3. Roger Andrews says:

“To belittle the socialist ideology in any way, to turn aside from it in the slightest degree means to strengthen bourgeois ideology.“ (Vladimir Lenin, 1901.)

Substitute “alarmist” for “socialist” and “skeptic” for “bourgeois” and you’ve got it.

I’m sure that the Guardian, the BBC and the rest of the watermelons will be ecstatic about this.
And to think these same “liberals” were aghast at McCarthyism.

    The delicious irony!

The climate obsessed are cowards. Unable to defend their position, they can only succeed by shutting down those who disagree.

    Roy Spencer joins the debate.

‘The Bullying of Bengtsson and the Coming Climate Disruption Hypocalypse’

‘That climate models do NOT provide good forecasts with demonstrable skill should concern everyone. But as Bengtsson has found out, a scientist advertises this fact at their peril.’

‘I have talked to established climate scientists who are afraid to say anything about their skepticism. In hushed tones, they admit they have to skew the wording of papers and proposals to not appear to be one of those “denier” types.’

‘For over 20 years we have been funding them to find evidence of the human influence on climate. And they dutifully found it everywhere, hiding under every rock, glacier, ocean, and in every cloud, hurricane, tornado, raindrop, and snowflake.’

‘I think we might be seeing the death throes of alarmist climate science. They know they are on the ropes, and are pulling out all the stops in a last ditch effort to shore up their crumbling storyline.’

‘Since the public doesn’t really care anymore, they have to shout even louder. Exaggerate even more.’
    Hence ‘hypocalypse’.

  7. p.g.sharrow says:

The socialist AGW Ecoloons HAVE to find a human signature to justify their religion of persecution of humanity and the need for THEM to control all human activities. They know that they are losing this argument and soon will try to negotiate an agreement the humans have some effect rather then are the total cause. This must be resisted. Humans have NO control over global climate, NONE! The followers of the “Philosophy of Moore” must be totally discredited or they will return to bedevil humanity again. pg

Andrew Montford (Bishop Hill) writes in The Spectator:

‘There is something very wrong with climatology’

  9. oldbrew says:

The row continues. Now it’s claims that scientists shouldn’t join ‘political advocacy’ groups.

Not that WWF, Greenpeace etc. who wrote large chunks of some IPCC reports are in that category of course 😉

oldbrew the context behind the GWPF copy is unpleasant. ” It goes without saying that our translation and publication of this text in no way means that we endorse the views expressed in it.”

Swedish version with different comments, separate blog posts keep English comments away from Swedes?

uppsalainitiativet publish an English translation of Bengtsson but do not so far as I can see do more than link their prior blog articles which remain in Swedish.

Well of course the committed fans of imaginary warming that no-one can detect want to marginalise him, at least from themselves.

It’s great watching them panic! Not so great for LB but he doesn’t seem to be in danger of cracking.
