Environmental Audit Committee wants to keep global temperature below 2C

The level of ignorance is astonishing. These people aren’t fit to wield power. Vote them out in May.

  1. jmrsudbury says:

Ha! We are at 14C and they want to cool us to 2C?

(I know they actually meant 2 degrees above the 14C, but that is not what was written)

    John M Reynolds

  2. tallbloke says:

Exactly. I think we can have some fun with this if I can get one of the UKIP MPs to attend the debate and intervene.🙂

  3. ren says:

Current distribution of ozone in the stratosphere shows where the polar vortex is blocked and how far will flow the air from the north. You can see for example, that is over northern Africa.

  4. ivan says:

I could use that 2 degrees down here at the moment. It is after midday and the temperature has managed to get to nearly 14 degrees – the problem is that I am in the south of France. What it must be like in the UK I shudder to think.

  5. tallbloke says:

Fields are covered in snow up here in the frozen norf. It’s below 2C just as the EAC wish…

  6. ren says:

  7. hunter says:

How pathetic of these so-called leaders. They and their friends are raping the landscapes of Britain (and every other nation under sway of climate madness). Fire them all.

  8. p.g.sharrow says:

India and China are on a nonstop expansion of fossil fuel burning and these stupid people think that “They” can save the world by strangling Briton back into the Dark Ages.

There is no cure for stupid.

When will these people realize CO2 has nothing to do with Global Climate Change. 18 years of increasing atmospheric CO2 and No measurable warming, maybe even cooling. GOD has proved the CO2 greenhouse gas meme is false, the experiment will continue. pg

  9. manicbeancounter says:

Global warming, insofar as it is a problem, a global problem. Britain produces 1.5% of emissions global emissions, a share that has been falling for at least 25 years now. This is due to emissions growth elsewhere in the world, a consequence of about half the world’s population being in countries with rapid economic growth. It is quite clear from most of these countries that they are not going to sacrifice that economic growth for some vague policy . So there are two extremes outcomes of UK policy.
    1. The most doom-laden scenarios are correct and the policy to reduce UK emissions by 80% is achieved. In which case the UK will so small a difference, that it will not be measurable. Further generations will effectively suffer effectively all the consequence on unmitigated warming, and living standards will be lower than without policy. Being poorer, the human suffering from climate change will be worse.
    2. CAGW is false. So any policy would have only reduced the living standards of most people compared with no policy..

That is, in the current global policy situation, British climate policy is worse for the people of Britain if the alarmists are correct on “the science”, than if Tallbloke is correct. If you don’t believe me, trying comparing Haiti today with Northern Japan. Haiti’s earthquake was much smaller in intensity and did not have a tsunami to follow. But Japan is a much richer country, so was better prepared and was able to recover much quicker. If dangerous climate change is coming, the richer a nation, the better able it will to “absorb” the wild weather.

  10. How many of the committee are qualified in science or engineering.? I would put my money on zero, nada, zilch, none etc.

  11. dscott says:

It would hilarious if not for Europe’s imminent cut off of natural gas from Russia. Apparently, Britain is on suicide watch.

    A) IF 10,000 Brits died of exposure to the cold, would the British government relent and frack for oil and gas?

    B) IF 100,000 Brits died of exposure to the cold, would the British government relent and frack for oil and gas?

    C) IF 1,000,000 Brits died of exposure to the cold, would the British government relent and frack for oil and gas?

At what order of magnitude would trigger a British response of sanity? A, B or C?

  12. tallbloke says:

Phil B: This is why I’m an engineer standing for parliament. We need some people in there who know what they’re talking about when it comes to fuel and energy.

  13. J Martin says:

@Scott. I pick answer d). They would blame a million deaths on ‘deniers’ and say this demonstrates why they are right to persue their policies to combat ‘climate change’.

Most UK MPs just do what the newspapers and Greenpeace etc tell them to do. They don’t have the integrity or intelligence to make any effort to look into the global warming nonsense themselves.

  14. Doug Proctor says:

This is the way the world ends: not with a bang, but a bill.

  15. Centinel2012 says:

Reblogged this on Centinel2012 and commented:
My would anyone base anything on a made up 2C limit that no scientist will even take credit for developing!

  16. edhoskins says:

The two illustrated papers below demonstrate why the limit of +2degC can never be reached by reduction of CO2 emissions by the developed world or worldwide.

The +2degC limit can never be attained with added CO2 because of the diminishing effectiveness of CO2 as a greenhouse gas with its increasing concentration. Only 13% of CO2’s effectiveness as a greenhouse gas now remains.

    see:
    https://edmhdotme.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/de-carbonisation-outcomes/

The UK is currently producing ~1.6% of world CO2 emissions, so any UK efforts at de-carbonisation could never have any discernible impact on global temperature. The annual growth of emissions from China outstrips UK emissions regularly. UK CO2 emissions / head are already very close to the CO2 emissions / head in China.

Richard Tol confirms that any modest negative effects of warming could only ever begin at ~+2degC.

And take note of what sensible academics have said in formal testimony:

Professor Judith Curry’s Congressional testimony 14/1/2014:
“Motivated by the precautionary principle to avoid dangerous anthropogenic climate change, attempts to modify the climate through reducing CO2 emissions may turn out to be futile. The stagnation in greenhouse warming observed over the past 15+ years demonstrates that CO2 is not a control knob on climate variability on decadal time scales.”

Professor Richard Lindzen UK parliament committee testimony 28/1/2014 on IPCC AR5:
“Whatever the UK decides to do will have no impact on your climate, but will have a profound impact on your economy. (You are) Trying to solve a problem that may not be a problem by taking actions that you know will hurt your economy.”

  17. hunter says:

The idea that elected government officials can manage the world’s temperature is delusional.

  18. Kon Dealer says:

This list is a damning rollcall of the ignorant.
Just how many of these jizzweasels has a first degree in science?
How many of these lunatics have degrees in the arts, humanities, Law, or the dreaded PPE?

  19. oldbrew says:

What makes these dimwits think that stopping fracking will mean less gas is burned? More will be imported that’s all.

If or when power cuts start will they be available for interview?

  20. tallbloke says:

Today sees the UK Parliament consider an amendment to the Infrastructure Bill that would introduce a moratorium on unconventional gas wells in the UK. To coincide with the vote, the Environmental Audit Committee has produced one of its normal sham reports saying that industrial activity will all end in disaster, based as always on a series of interviews with environmentalists and pretty much nobody else. It’s good to know that the views of electrohippies are not being overlooked. I gather that the committee’s chairman Joan Whalley has been all over the BBC this morning, no doubt given the usual free pass by the eco-nutters who present programmes for the corporation. –Andrew Montford, Bishop Hill, 26 January 2015 (http://www.bishop-hill.net/blog/2015/1/26/a-big-day-for-shale-gas.html)
