You have to laugh, there’s some serious conspiracy ideation going on here, and precious little science.:

Slugging the Kool-aid again Naomi?

Dear Roger,

When I wrote the book Merchants of Doubt in 2010, I only wanted one thing: to uncover the truth about who was behind the widespread, and sadly, effective, campaigns to undermine the established science of climate change, and why they were doing what they were doing.

I never imagined that, a few years later, Sony Pictures would release Merchants of Doubt, a captivating feature film that exposes the ugly world of climate denial like never before.

Thousands are about to see this movie, and when they do, they’ll be fired
up and anxious to take action — let’s make sure they do. Together,
let’s create a surge of people power strong enough to bring down climate

[3]Watch and share the trailer for Merchants of Doubt, and then tell your
friends to build the buzz!

Forecast the Facts members were way ahead of the game in recognizing and
exposing climate denial. Your very mission speaks to heart of the problem:
disinformation. Many Americans still believe that there is “no solid”
evidence of global warming — a result of the organized and well-funded
campaign to confuse the public on climate. Worse, a powerful portion of
our political leadership continues to promote the canard that there’s no
consensus, we don’t really know, and therefore we can’t do anything.

Merchants of Doubt is about to spread our message wider than ever
before. The national premieres begin next week — now’s the time to really
build the buzz.

    What a delusional woman.

  2. michael hart says:

What was the marketing slogan of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints Division?
“Share and Enjoy” (later modified to “Go Stick Your Head In a Pig”) 🙂

  3. craigm350 says:

Yes let us bring down the ugly, rampant and heavily funded climate denial of natural oscillation. 😉

  4. oldbrew says:

There’s another new film out in which Hollywood mocks global warming.

‘As of 1 March 2015 Kingsman: The Secret Service has earned a worldwide gross of $209.8 million against its budget of $81 million’ – Wikipedia

  5. Many Americans still believe that there is “no solid” evidence of global warming — a result of the organized and well-funded campaign to confuse the public on climate

Or it could have something to do with the increasingly Hoth weather.

  6. tallbloke says:

Bernd: Yes, see the link I substituted for Naomi’s in the email.

  7. Andrew says:

If anyone doubts the BBC’s love of CC, there are not 1 but 2 Climate programs on BBC4 this week.

Monday 21:00 Climate change by numbers
Wednesday 21:00 Climate change: a horizon guide presented by Dr Helen Czerski.

In her last Horizon climate program she suggested we put our faith in climate models, as they were the best science available.

Both no doubt, Slightly less enjoyable than Vogon Poetry

    Planetary sciences?

    Omnologos: Planetary sciences?

Ah, more Brian cox 1000 light year stares.

  10. oldbrew says:

‘the ugly world of climate denial’ mostly exists in the heads of people who don’t like having it pointed out to them that ‘official’ or IPCC-backed climate theory doesn’t match reality.

    It’s a box-office flop.

  11. hunter says:

    Speaking of undisclosed backers……..
Perhaps it is just me, but when I look at her I see a modern day Inquisitor.

  12. dickon66 says:

So, Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway have had a film made with other peoples money for their own financial gain, in which they fantasise about a group of people preying on public gullibility for their own financial gain. That is really great work if you can get it!

  13. EdG says:

Ha, ha. Clicked on the link. Yes, I think I will share that!

Oreskes and the gang are sure ramping up the propaganda and attacks ahead of Paris.

  14. Alexander K says:

Oreskes is a nut job, with no scientific cred whatsoever. Damnably unpleasant to those she smears , too!

  15. E.M.Smith says:

I had the unpleasantness of meeting her at a Stanford presentation. In person, she is worse and makes my skin crawl. Just not a pleasant person at all

Looks like Kingsan for me, and not buying Sony stuff for a while.

  16. E.M.Smith says:

    Kingsman… darned tablet ….

  17. Wayne Job says:

EM just looking at her makes my skin crawl she is indeed a piece of work.

  18. bleakhouses says:

So even if we we’re all wrong we are no longer allowed to be.
Eventually the tally of those in agreement with the official position will be as probative as the 2002 election in Iraq when Saddam Hussein won 100% of the vote.

  19. I would suggest reading the writings about this issue, of both the tremendous wordsmiths, “The Pointman” and “Climate Nuremberg, Brad P. Keyes”, to try to understand this silliyness. Each can take the same bag of words, than write, and then you must accept “important”, or “nonsense”!

  20. Kon Dealer says:

Ugly, arrogant and stupid. A winning combo for a climate “psientist”

  21. pinroot says:

How does it feel to be part of the “organized and well-funded campaign to confuse the public on climate”? 🙂

  22. p.g.sharrow says:

“How does it feel to be part of the “organized and well-funded campaign to confuse the public on climate”

This points the way to the future! The World Wide Web is more powerful then the capture of all other means of communication by “the Elites for control of the world”. They greatly fear the loss of their gravy train of funding from the government trough. Their “message” is being clouded by our publishing facts that contradict their talking points.

    We don’t need them.

Of course it helps that GOD is against them as well 😎 pg

  23. Steve C says:

Naomi, dear Naomi, you say you wrote your book “to uncover the truth about who was behind the widespread, and sadly, effective, campaigns to undermine the established science of climate change, and why they were doing what they were doing.”

You really didn’t need to go to so much trouble. The answers are quite well known, and they are (1) the United Nations are the main offenders and (2) seizing absolute, autocratic power on a global scale is why they’re doing it. Oh, and btw there isn’t an “established science of climate change”, because the scientific study of climate itself is still very much in its infancy, and will be for centuries to come.

There you go. Now you can get back to shouting at the neighbours, or whatever it is you do when you’re not shouting at us. No charge. 😀

  24. Tim Hammond says:

Got to laugh. When I wrote my book, i already knew what the answers were and who was in the wrong.

And how did she know? Because Climate Change fits with all her pre-existing political prejudices.

And she thinks she’s some sort of virtuous crusader?

  25. M Simon says:

Trailer? It looks more like a motor home.

  26. “… Thousands are about to see this movie, ….” I wouldn’t hold my breath over that, considering the last movie I went to on this same theme, the 2012 anti-skeptic “Greedy Lying Bastards” movie ( ) had maybe 8 other people in the audience.

In case anybody missed it, Ron Arnold and I have not been kind to Ms Oreskes lately: “Naomi Oreskes Warps Climate Skeptic History”

  27. Timo Soren says:

This woman will face the music in 20 years, when her laurels will have been removed and a few of us will remember their tripe and continuously make them face their failure, their arrogant superiority and force them to see and hear their words of stupidity over and over again. It is their well earned future.

  28. linneamogren says:

This is powerful evidence that we are winning! This is an act of desperation not of theory. The noose gets tighter with every aspect of their hypothesis under continuous examination. It has become more and more obvious that the fraud of AGW is being exposed from scam calculations which triple the effects of C02 to their “consensus” papers being destroyed upon peer-review. This movie is the AGW cadres attempt to stop the oncoming train in the tunnel, but it’s too late. Just as Patton knew the Germans were finished when he saw them removing their fallen in wooden horse carts, this film is one last push against a storm surge of science.

  29. oldbrew says:

The BBC churns out more vacuous propaganda – count the number of ‘could’ in this short piece.
There isn’t one in the headline (no surprise) but the next line says:

‘The number of people affected by river flooding worldwide could nearly triple in the next 15 years, analysis shows’

Or it could not. Blah blah.

  30. linneamogren says:

I noticed that time and time again within AGW reports.

” What could have occurred ”
    “What could happen ”
“What must of happened was ”

    and so on….

What was the marketing slogan of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints Division?

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who’ll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,” with a footnote to the effect that the editors would welcome applications from anyone interested in taking over the post of robotics correspondent.

Curiously enough, an edition of the Encyclopedia Galactica that had the good fortune to fall through a time warp from a thousand years in the future defined the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came.”

The motto of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation is “Share and Enjoy.”

“Naomi, back up to the wall”

  32. gallopingcamel says:

While discussing Oreskes, ridicule is the best approach; the insights of Douglas Adams are most helpful.

“It startled him even more when just after he was awarded the Galactic Institute’s Prize for Extreme Cleverness he got lynched by a rampaging mob of respectable physicists who had finally realized that the one thing they really couldn’t stand was a smartass.”
