  1. When academics tried to predict the cycles of the earth from the Camp Century ice core they thought they had found a cycle which meant we would be heading for global cooling. That did not happen, so they then searched around for an explanation … which was rising CO2, they then changed their mind about global cooling and everyone started predicting global warming.

So, my fear is now that CO2 as a serious driver for climate is no longer credible, that the academics will yet again jump on the next “thing” and this time all that happens in the climate will be FALSELY ascribed to solar activity.

    Scottish Sceptic,

“So, my fear is now that CO2 as a serious driver for climate is no longer credible, that the academics will yet again jump on the next “thing” and this time all that happens in the climate will be FALSELY ascribed to solar activity.”

I very much doubt that will happen; no advantage whatsoever in attributing climate change to the Sun.
Was CO2-driven climate change ever credible? Solar-driven climate change has been, remains so, and indeed now looks increasingly likely to be, on the basis of actual scientific evidence, a very significant forcing of decadal, multidecadal and centennial climate change. Other factors are at play: the restribution of heat via internal variability, man-made and volcanic aerosol forcing and probably a role for GHG forcing (re-inforcement). All that is (hopefully) changing is that ‘normal’ climate science research is re-asserting itself over ‘man-made’ climate science research!

  3. 1957chev says:

Sent this message, by a proponent of global warming. What are the best possible answers to these questions?

The following are some fundamental questions that I believe everyone should
be able to answer before taking a position on ‘climate change’:

How has the world’s climate fluctuated over the last 100,000 – 100 million
    years?

What are the top 5 factors that influenced those changes and how do they
    rank in relative importance?

What impact do these factors have on the atmosphere?

If increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere (and the presumed increase in
    temperature) are so critical:
How is CO2 being produced and absorbed in the atmosphere? What processes
cause CO2 levels in the atmosphere to go up and down?
What is the % of man-made CO2 production as a % of total worldwide CO2
    production?

  4. Ron Clutz says:

As Ian Wilson has told us, it is all about the sun and length of days:

    https://rclutz.wordpress.com/2015/09/16/the-climates-they-are-a-changing/

  5. Jaime says:

Willis appears to be aiming to debunk the entire scientific literature on solar links to climate change. His method is simple:

    1. Dismiss all papers which don’t link to their data.
    2. Throw down the gauntlet to all WUWT readers to come up with solar papers with data which he
    can link to and analyse.
    3. Publicly affirm any which stand up to his analysis (or not) without the corresponding requirement
that he publicly formally debunks every ‘bad’ paper which he recieves.

Awaiting his reply to my comment:
