Top UN scientist complains about UK renewables slowdown

More green propaganda

The BBC is again promoting a ‘rush to renewables’ that everyone is supposed to be engaged in, but as Jo Nova points out this is somewhat exaggerated: ‘Remember, all developed countries are going Green, and Clean Energy is everywhere. It’s only (insert your country) that is falling behind.’

BBC: Cuts in support for renewable energy in the UK have been criticised by the UN’s chief environment scientist. Prof Jacquie McGlade said the UK was shifting away from clean energy as the rest of the world rushed towards it. She said the cuts in renewables subsidies, coupled with tax breaks for oil and gas, sent a worrying signal to the coming UN climate summit in Paris.

The UK government says it will meet its targets on carbon emissions in the most cost-effective way. A spokesman said it was “absolutely committed to getting a global deal in Paris”.

Prof McGlade said the UK appeared to have abandoned its leadership on climate change, while 150 other nations were making unprecedented pledges to shift towards clean energy. She told BBC News: “What I’m seeing worldwide is a move very much towards investment in renewable energy. To counterbalance that you see the withdrawal of subsidies and tax breaks for fossil fuels.  What’s disappointing is when we see countries such as the United Kingdom that have really been in the lead in terms of getting their renewable energy up and going – we see subsidies being withdrawn and the fossil fuel industry being enhanced.”

  1. Bryan says:

Yes the propaganda is so thinly disguised even the blind can see through it.

The other topic that the BBC tries to push endlessly is Euthanasia.
Even after another House of Commons overwhelming vote against, the BBC have elevated a man’s one way ticket to Zurich as today’s main topic.
No doubt where the BBC sympathies lay.

On the other hand the BBC will not highlight the number of pensioners (or infirm) dying from hypothermia because of exorbitant fuel prices.
Nor will they publish the ratio of ‘renewable’ energy cost/fossil fuel energy cost.

  2. ivan says:

Is that the start of panic I hear from the green blob, panic that the little people are beginning to wake up to the scam of climate change that has cost them jobs and money from the green taxes.

Is it fear that the UN and greens are showing, fear that Paris will be a failure and they will be laughed at as gullible fools that have been shown up as being ignorant of basic science and are only in it for the money they are conning out of the general public. Maybe they are also afraid the worm will turn on them to get some recompense for what it has cost unnecessarily.

  3. oldbrew says:

Funny how it always seems to be people with more than adequate incomes who shout the loudest about throwing more money at renewables and forcing up the price of every other energy source :/

  4. Roger Clague says:

ClimateGate email 1682.” What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably”.

  5. michael hart says:

Umm… is there any such thing as a “Top UN Scientist”?
I believed it once, but now I know they are bureaucrats. Even though they may well have been honourable and accomplished scientists in the past, they can’t do both at the same time.

  6. oldbrew says:

MH: Well, top in the UN at least – ‘the UN’s chief environment scientist’.

  7. Don Keiller says:

The UN is not fit for purpose.
We should shut up shop, get rid of the corrupt (ie most) and start again from first principles.

  8. Stephen Richards says:

I’ll second and third that Don. Get shot of UN, EU and all the other pinky greens and save a fortune to keep the poor warm and fed.

  9. E.M.Smith says:

    @Michael Hart:

You puntuated it wrongly. It’s UN-scientist..
