A related issue is that Scottish woodland is currently being invaded by an army of wind farm constructors whenever they get the chance.

The SNP’s plans to increase the amount of woodland in Scotland in an attempt to fight climate change risks damaging the nation’s “dramatic open views and vistas”, according to mountaineering and gamekeepers groups.

The Scottish Government has proposed increasing the amount of woodland cover from 17 per cent to 25 per cent by 2050, with a commitment to planting 10,000 extra hectares of trees between now and 2022 included in its draft Climate Plan, as iNews reports.

But Mountaineering Scotland and the Scottish Gamekeepers Association (SGA) are concerned that the changes could damage the nation’s wild moorland, arguing it forms a crucial part of Scotland’s “unique” landscape.

The two groups often disagree about issues affecting the Scottish environment, but have put aside their difference to write a joint letter to Scotland’s Environment Secretary, Roseanna Cunningham, voicing their fears about the plans.

“Our concern is whether adequate weight is being given to the significant changes this will have on the landscape of Scotland and in particular the dramatic open views and vistas which have come to signify to the outside world that which is unique about our country,” the letter reads.

“Until a vision and strategy for Scotland’s uplands is in place, there is an obvious failure to join up what is required from the land to meet forestry targets and what we might want to keep in terms of internationally rare and valuable landscapes and ecosystems.”

‘what we might want to keep’ sounds more than a bit scary :/

there isn’t any place on the planet these self important ignoramuses can’t screw up with their wonderful ideas. First off the damn windmills are unspeakably ugly! as well as mincing thousands of birds. Now they want to utterly change an ecosystem after spending over a decade screaming at the rest of us to restore the land. I think the spin a big lotto type wheel with dozens of stupid contradictory ideas on it, any time they run out of dumb.

Open ground is suitable for grouse. Grouse shooting is a past-time of the rich. SNP will do anything to annoy the rich. Sounds logical that they would wish to convert open ground to woodland, if only to further their aims of envy politics.

Bloke: SNP are handing over vast sums to wealthy landowners in return for planting wind ‘farms’ all over the place.

‘If it goes ahead, the wind farm will reap multi-million pound profits for Buccleuch, the UK’s largest private landowner.’

Oldbrew: Agreed, but it’s not the money they object to, after all they would dearly like to join their ranks, it’s the thought of the toffs enjoying themselves that they can’t bear. Same reason that fox hunting was banned, nothing to do with animal welfare and all to do with the metropolitan left having a bash at the old enemy.
