Last Chance Hotel: Australia’s Energy Crisis at the Crossroads

Anyone who fondly imagines that wind and solar power are about to become as cheap as chips in some glorious renewable future, should read this tale of Australian woe.

No way back from here: Malcolm muddles & Frydenberg fudges.

Australia’s energy crisis is a self-inflicted calamity with no apparent end in sight.

The PM, Malcolm Turnbull seems intent on protecting his son, Alex’s investment in Australia’s most notorious wind power outfit, Infigen (see our post here).

While his gormless Energy Minister, Josh Frydenberg behaves like a punch-drunk boxer, who cannot land a punch and with absolutely no idea what’s going on around him.

Into that mix strides Alan Finkel; a boffin tasked with trying to rescue Australia’s power grid from imminent collapse, the consequence of loading it up with intermittent, chaotic and erratic wind and solar power.

Some see Finkel as the Great White Hope.

STT will reserve its judgement on that matter: bright and shiny ideas are one thing, implementing them over a pack of rabid, salivating rent-seekers out to prevent you from doing so is…

So sad, millions suffer so the PM’s little boy doesn’t lose his investments. I believe the word for this is corruption?

Apparently the true cost of renewables vs. the rainbows and unicorns fictional cost has not made a dent in the Green’s devotion to “Free” energy.

  2. When the new scientific formula on clean energy discovered, the Paris agreement on climate change is funny because the world’s energy problem can be solved soon!
This new hydroelectric scientific formula (E>P+1at) is the near future of renewable energy in the world!
We can answer them with a new scientific formula which not only Mr President President Donald Trump will be pleased but also all the polluting industries in shock plunge and join me! The result is a 24-year-old research proves that the world’s energy problem will be solved soon!
    (Ee>Ep+E1at) = (E>P+1at)
What is the most difficult scientific question of global hydroelectric that no one scientists could the answer to it?
    Now the hard global question!
How can we produce clean energy in a best way by the potential of water Static head in dams & seas that this water pressure can push to the center of planet?
This is by getting benefit of joint scientific formula (E>P+1at) with immersion turbines method inside the water of dams & seas (Immersion turbines of series and parallel in zero point of opposite forces).
Ee= High pressure clean energy that is produced by the water power plants in the depth of water via released fixed potential energy of water natural pressure (More than ten meters of water) with new method (Immersion turbines of series and parallel in zero point of opposite forces).
Ep= Released fixed potential energy of water natural pressure in water depth (More than ten meters of water).
E1at= Amount of energy that is consumed at a small pump of one atmosphere power is the ability (In the same place of the water power plant in water depth).
Many scientists believe that the discovery of the formula is unparalleled. Although many still in shock! How this formula has not be discovered by scientists in the world. Answer to a hard question that scientists are searching for hundreds of years and they can control of climate change and stop global warming soon.
My new formula and new method can change the world and start a new industrial revolution soon. Note: This new solution and this new formula invention in Iraq and Turkey to formally accepted.
This invention is patented in Department of Justice in Kurdistan of Iraq No. 952/6 on 12/6/2013.

I think there is rather more to the government’s incompetence in this. Probably a majority of the Turnbull Liberal Party believe the Green claims, or at least that a majority of the population wants more renewables (which might be true until you ask if they want to pay for them). At least 2 senior ministers (Hunt and Bishop) are strongly onside with the AGW crowd.
The question “If renewables are so cheap, why do electricity bills go up?” is never answered. In the artificial and isolated world that is Canberra a substantial majority are happy to buy ‘Green Energy’ indeed the ACT government has signed supply agreements all over the country at prices that look attractive because the subsidies fall on the rest of the population.
There is every possibility that the Libs will split over more renewables and with a 1 seat majority that will be the end. Labor are well ahead in the polls and will vote any higher renewables legislation through before forcing an election.

OPM is the fertilizer that grows these boondoggles and when it that growth enhancer is exhausted more OPM will be required to remove the abandoned hulks. The promoters will be long gone with their winnings and the rate payers will be stuck with paying ALL the bills.

Somehow it doesn’t seen fair that we get stuck with paying for this congame that we railed against all these years…pg

Leaving aside the the high costs, the major problem of intermittency i.e. unreliability doesn’t seem to strike home with the public unless or until it all goes wrong and the next power cut arrives.
