Will this failure persuade the media to stop pretending Germany’s energy policy is a shining example to the rest the world? Probably not, as yet more financial pain for its taxpayers awaits, thanks to climate obsessions.

BERLIN—Germany is missing its European climate targets and will have to pay for rights to emit greenhouse gases due to polluting vehicles, farms and buildings, the government said Wednesday, an embarrassing admission for Chancellor Angela Merkel who had once put energy transformation at the forefront of her policies.

Germany will have to purchase greenhouse gas emissions allowances for the years 2019 and 2020 from other European Union members, an environmental ministry spokesman said.

The extent of the shortfall in the years 2019 and 2020 will only be known two years after these periods and the permits will then be purchased bilaterally from an EU-country at a yet to be determined price at the expense of German taxpayers, he said.

As part of its commitment to prevent global warming under last year’s Paris agreement, the European Union has pledged to curb global warming by accelerating reductions in carbon discharges not only for industry but also as a second pillar for nonaviation transport, agriculture, waste, buildings and forestry, among others.

As part of this second pillar, Germany’s target was to cut CO2 emission by 14% by 2020 compared with the 2005 levels. And this goal, according to the ministry, won’t be met.

The admission comes after Germany last autumn already conceded it will miss its national goal to cut overall carbon emissions by 40% by 2020, compared with 1990.

    Europe’s Energy Crack-Up

Europe’s energy policies are worse than stupid. At the end of last year, Sir John Beddington, a former chief scientific adviser to the British government, lifted the lid on the scandal at the heart of the EU’s renewable policies. According to Sir John, since the EU’s first renewables directive in 2008, the growth of bioenergy — much of it sourced from North American woods and forests — has provided around half the expansion of renewable energy. To supply even one third of the additional renewable energy needed to meet Europe’s new 2030 target will require an amount of wood roughly equivalent to the combined harvest in the U.S. and Canada. The fiction currently being peddled is that Europe is only burning wood residues — the bits of trees left over from other uses — but new EU rules agreed to last week by the European Parliament will expand the definition of bioenergy to include trees specifically harvested to be burnt in power stations.

This, Sir John says, will result in higher emissions than from using natural gas or coal. Burning wood releases four times as much carbon dioxide per MWh of electricity as natural gas does, and over 50 percent more than coal.

It’s all a scam to sell something to someone via the force of law because otherwise they wouldn’t sell anything and not make a profit. It’s pure greed, the sleazy green profiteers bought and paid the politicians to achieve this result. Check the sources of campaign contributions of the politicians to find the truth. Sooner or later the “customers” are going to be unable to afford the “environmental” benefits of the green scammers profit margin. How many more UK senior citizens freezing to death will it take to wake up the Socialist sheep? Even real sheep are smart enough to recognize the difference between a wolf and a dog.

Not only are their CO2 outputs not dropping but they have not reduced their Coal use one Iota on 40 years.

Despite what the green politicians are telling the people it is all virtue signalling to cover up the fact that Germany has the highest electricity cost in Europe.

Just look at the graphs at

(sorry I don’t know how to include them here)

the Euroidiots really stepped in it with the current protocols. Before they could just posture and strut around virtue signalling and throwing rocks (or poo) at America, who actually DID reduce the Satanic Gases. This time there are auditors measuring actual outputs right there in front of God and everybody. I believe the phrase is hoist on their own petard. I have such a massive Schadenboner reading about them shooting themselves in both feet with this AGW idiocy.

The unsolvable conundrums arising from use of intermittent renewables will never go away. Batteries and interconnectors are only damage limitation at best, so some form of fuel burning is the only reliable way forward unless you have vast hydro resources (like Norway).

Report: Germany will have to spend more than 1 trillion euros ($1.2 trillion) to meet the EU’s 2050 climate target

And even then they would likely have an unreliable blackout-prone system if renewables still had grid priority 🤣

The most marvellous thing about the picture of Frau Merkel, is that the wind mills appear static. Which is how they ought to be considered when considering their overall utility to the world.

Like an electricity grid, I like to think of my heart as continuously beating, and my lungs as continuously tansporting oxygen into my body, where the circulating blood moves it to where it is needed. The thought that they might not do so, for even a short amount of time….makes me think that Angela Merkel is a few states short of a full reich.
