UK Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn is calling for a UK wide ban on fracking. He has put out a video in a tweet, requoted (and then deleted) by one of his MPs, Chris Williamson.
As “evidence” showing how dangerous fracking is, he uses a clip from the #fakenews film ‘Gasland’ where someone ignites gas coming out with water from a kitchen sink tap. The depth of ignorance of our politicians concerning energy will collapse our electricity grid unless we vote them out and replace them with sensible people.
We need to fight this ignorance now!
Another scary movie from the ill-informed, disingenuous scaremongers.
Here’s the original tweet. I wonder if it’ll get deleted…
Aye aye, seen the “movie” too, ….’the depth of ignorance of our politicians concerning energy will collapse our electricity grid unless we vote them out and replace them with sensible people.’ … How exactly? – You vote for a Party or / and are there any sensible people left? I find that in the many and several different Engineering institutions, there are too many following the gravy train – so how do you weed out the genuine sensible person from the granules ( think gravy). Every Tech Publication has morethan its share of the Faithful, unfortunately. Whether you only read articles or enter into discourse with them, you are invariably left with the bitter green taste.
The Top 5 Lies About Fracking
Falsehood 1: You can light your tap water on fire. Fox made this claim famous in the first Gasland movie when he showed a resident of Colorado striking a match as water came out of his tap; the natural gas dissolved in the water burst into flame. Yet the water was tested by the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, which reported to the resident: “There are no indications of any oil & gas related impacts to your well water.” The agency concluded that the natural gas in his water supply was derived from natural sources—the water well penetrated several coal beds that had released the methane into the well. Most people in the UK get their water filtered by a utility company before it reaches their taps anyway.
Yet another reason NOT to vote labour.
For me, the most disconcerting part of this hype is the credulity level of the average person. Scaremongering and patriotic bleating works all too well.
“… the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.” Hermann Goering
“[Democracy] Conceived as the foundation of liberty, it paves the way for tyranny. Born for the purpose of standing as a bulwark against Power, it ends by providing Power with the finest soil it has ever had in which to spread itself over the social field.” Bertrand de Jouvenal
“The one pervading evil of democracy is the tyranny of the majority, or rather of that party, not always the majority, that succeeds, by force or fraud, in carrying elections.” Lord Acton

Isn’t that where proportional representation comes in, or should do?
As in Northern Ireland for example…
Proportional Representation (PR) is an electoral system designed to make sure that the candidates elected represent accurately the opinions of the voters. This means that the strength of each party elected is in proportion to its support among the people.

Sounds more like democracy than ‘not always the majority’ 😐
Ask him to watch the FrackNation film.
power mongering with Kabuki for the cheap seats. The burning tap water nonsense has been thoroughly debunked (as to the source of the gas) ages ago.
The people in Pennsylvania were known to be trying to scam the state out of millions over a natural phenomena that was not connected to fracking whatsoever. The people in Colorado didn’t construct their well properly (well casing) and screwed themselves but are trying to capitalize on their own stupidity. On on and on it goes.
One thing the pols can count on, the ignorance of the average voter.
He talks about job creation as if this is the 1970s. He is truly a man who wants to ignore the last fifty years and pretend we are not much, much better off.
Can someone get his learned brother Piers have a word with him to put him straight or is he just in blinkered political lying ‘vote prostitute’ mode ?
I noticed there was some news coverage of earth tremors measured since the new fracking operation started – apparently detected with specialist equipment and not actually perceptible.
Well the piling works for the Rampion wind farm about 10km from me brought down dust and rattled ornaments and caused me numerous headaches and sleepless nights. No specialist equipment required. Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump!
Phoney climate virtue signalling may be fun for some politicians, but pushed far enough it all ends with the lights going out.
We have methane gas bubbling out of our well water. The aquifer is 180 feet deep and the gas effervesses once the pressure is removed. That does not mean that fracking has caused any problems but lighting a tap on fire is possible.
“He has put out a video in a tweet, requoted (and then deleted) by one of his MPs, Chris Williamson.”
For clarification. Has Jeremy Corbyn deleted his initial tweet or has Chris Williamson deleted his re-tweet?
Tremor of 0.8 recorded. European safety limit is 2.5
BBC: Fracking in Lancashire suspended following earthquake
1 hour ago
“As per the hydraulic fracture plan in place at Preston New Road, work will now pause for at least 18 hours and is expected to recommence on Saturday morning.”

Proves the sensors are working. Everything’s an ‘earthquake’ at the BBC
Can we say that if we stuck a super sensitive monitor in any hole a mile down,
we’d pick up regular rumbling on the Earth’s crust of the same magnitude ?
The last tremor detected in Lancashire BEFORE fracking was this
2018/08/05 10:29:52.6 53.727 -2.343 9 1.0 BAXENDEN, LANCASHIRE
scale 1.0 is of course a magnitude stronger than today’s 0.8
Note to BBC I would say “local deep underground tremors”
not “EARTHQUAKES in in Lancashire”
… but you PR experts know it’s all about owning the language.
British Geological Survey has this to say about them:
“A dense network of *temporary seismic sensors* around Blackpool allows us to detect much smaller earthquakes than we are typically able to do in other parts of the UK.
The BGS permanent network of sensors across the UK is usually able to detect most earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.0 ML or above anywhere in the UK, though this may vary from place to place and also at different times. All of the events detected near Preston New Road have magnitudes that are far below our normal detection threshold.
From Seismic Activity at Preston New Road: FAQs

ie detections are being made cos there is a whole new series of sensors
