As the forces of climate alarm degenerate ever further into synthetic hysteria and absurdity, Ross McKitrick tries to restore some perspective.

Science Matters

In a legal proceeding, a witness can only testify to what he or she personally experienced. Anything reported to them by others is dismissed as “hearsay”, not evidence by direct observation, but rather an opinion offered by someone else.

In the current public commotion over global warming, almost all the discourse is composed of hearsay.  Ross McKitrick explains that the alleged changes in temperatures are so small that no one can possibly notice. Thus, their concern over global warming can only come from repeating hearsay in the form of charts and graphs published by people with an axe to grind. His article in the Financial Post is Hold the panic: Canada just warmed 1.7 degrees and … thrived. Excerpts below in italics with my bolds.

A recent report, commissioned by Environment and Climate Change Canada (also known as the federal Department of the Environment), sparked a feverish bout of…

Maybe we should be asking where all the global warming has gone when we are getting temperatures of 2C at night in the south of France.

It would be nice if the climate witchdoctors actually applied hard science to their studies instead of fiddling with computer models that they admit don’t consider such things as clouds.

oldbrew I can’t help wondering if they are using the new computer models that they admit are running hot.

My met station shows that we actually got 19.2C at lunchtime today and it has been dropping since then. Some of the old people in the village started their log burning fires this evening, something that I have not seen before in the 30 years I’ve been here.

Temp reached 20 or 21C here in northern England today. Expecting same or better tomorrow.

Forecasts say much the same for several days.

    NYT fake glacier news…

NY Times busts itself… Mount Rainier glacier melting not due to CO2

…per this 1930 report, the glacier on Mount Rainier had been melting by as much as 100+ feet a year since at least 1921… more than 100 parts per million CO2 ago.

  5. Graeme No.3 says:

Between about 22,000 and 17,000 thousand years ago, Earth’s sea levels were about 120 meters lower than they are now because much of the Earth’s seawater was locked up in kilometers-thick continental ice sheets.
Then, about 14,500 years ago, nearly the entire Northern Hemisphere abruptly warmed up by about 4-5°C within a span of about 20-30 years as sea levels rose at rates between 3 and 6 meters per century (Ivanovic et al., 2017). https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/2016GL071849

Not only that, but as Ellis and Palmer (2016) point out, Dr. James Hansen’s calculations of CO2’s radiative influence during the ~5,000 years of the Pleistocene-to-Holocene 5-6°C deglaciation suggest a 0.006 Wm² per decade CO2 forcing during this period, which is “about a third of the energy required to power a honey bee in flight.”

I’m still trying to figure how all that flora and fauna and human habitation they’re digging up in central Canada, and dating it to 10-12K yrs ago coterminous under all that ice people keep claiming existed over the northern hemisphere back then.

The same happened on Quelccaya, but now here its interesting because of findings. From here: https://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/05/world/americas/1600-years-of-ice-in-perus-andes-melted-in-25-years-scientists-say.html

    Quote
“Several years ago, the team reported on plants that had been exposed near a meltwater lake. Chemical analysis showed them to be about 4,700 years old, proving that the ice cap had reached its smallest extent in nearly five millenniums.

In the new research, a thousand feet of additional melting has exposed plants that laboratory analysis shows to be about 6,300 years old. The simplest interpretation, Dr. Thompson said, is that ice that accumulated over approximately 1,600 years melted back in no more than 25 years.”

That piece is from 2013, and the dates, as I recall, have been revised. Those dates correlate within limits to abrupt cooling which buried the plants at latitude ~14deg S, but a warming at polar regions.

The devil is in the detail. The lower date correlates to the date Dodwell gave for abrupt change. Quelccaya has been melting since then.

I still come back to this –

–The warmist-alarmists declare if we do nothing the planet’s atmosphere will warm by some three degrees or so. Okay, let’s accept that value for now (*cough* *cough*).

–The human contribution to GHE gases is determined to be about 3.5% of the total, Mother Nature contributing the rest. Even the warmists tend to agree with this value.

–So if we wiped out humans all at once and right this moment the future temperature would be about one tenth of a percent less – 3 degrees times 3.5% equals 0.105 degrees. Duh. So then why is ANYONE excited about it? And why would I think it okay to spend trillions of dollars on it?
