Denver weather: City sees biggest late May snow in 44 years

Unusually cold local weather for this time of year, not conforming to supposed warming trends claimed to be due to too many SUVs, power stations etc. Records may fall.

As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Denver had officially received 3.4 inches of snow, says CBS4 News.

That’s the most snow measured this late in the season since May 29, 1975 when 5.6 inches hit the city.

In addition to the snow, Denver tied the record low temperature for May 21 when the official thermometer for the city dropped to 31 degrees Tuesday morning. It was previously 31 degrees on this date in 2001 when 1 inch of snow fell.

In terms of high temperatures on Tuesday, they will struggle to reach into the lower 40s again making it the second day in a row with temperatures staying 30 to 35 degrees below normal for the third week in May.

The record “coldest maximum” for May 21 is 40 degrees set 128 years ago in 1891. It’s possible that record could also be challenged.

    And the record has fallen;

    Denver weather: City breaks 128-year cold record on Tuesday.

    Denver broke a 128-year record low maximum temperature record on Tuesday. With a high of just 39 degrees, it broke the previous record for the previous coldest May 21 high temperature – snapping the old record of 40 degrees from way back in 1891.

    Tuesday’s high temperature staying stuck in the 30s brought Denver into nearly uncharted waters. It marked the second-latest high temperature of 39 degrees or below, according to the National Weather Service’s official archives.

    Denver’s average high for May 21 is 73 degrees — meaning Tuesday’s high was a mere 34 degrees [~21.7°C] below average.

    In addition, Denver tied a record low of 31 degrees on Tuesday morning.

    Cold? That’s just weather, not climate. Only hot qualifies as climate.

    CG, that was my thought as well. If they say it is only weather they can keep the faith of the UN Church of Climatology alive for a little longer – poor deluded fools that they are.

    here in the Twin Cities we’re having another crappy Spring. This is the third year in a row that temperatures are 15 to 20 degrees below normal and lots of rain and overcast. It’s ‘normally’ in the mid 60’s to mid 70’s at this time. Instead we’ve had 40’s and 50’s. We even had a frost alert a couple nights back. We do get a sunny day now and then, but not many. Right now at lunch time it’s 56F.

    We could do with some global warming, ha ha.
