UN may run out of money by end of the month

Have they already paid in full for the COP 25 climate conference in Santiago in December? If not, the Chileans should be getting nervous as this report says: ‘To cut costs, Guterres mentioned postponing conferences and meetings.’

The United Nations is running a deficit of $230 million, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Monday, and may run out of money by the end of October, reports France24.

In a letter intended for the 37,000 employees at the UN secretariat and obtained by AFP, Guterres said unspecified “additional stop-gap measures” would have to be taken to ensure salaries and entitlements are paid.

“Member States have paid only 70 per cent of the total amount needed for our regular budget operations in 2019. This translates into a cash shortage of $230 million at the end of September. We run the risk of depleting our backup liquidity reserves by the end of the month,” he wrote.

To cut costs, Guterres mentioned postponing conferences and meetings and reducing services, while also restricting official travel to only essential activities and taking measures to save energy.

Guterres had asked member states earlier this year to up contributions to the world body to head off cash flow problems, but they refused, a UN official said on condition of anonymity.

With any luck they will be allowed to just run out of money and go home to look for real jobs. What a bunch of losers and grifters!

    What truly excellent news!

A pseudo government entity concerned with balancing their budget? We know they will not let that stand. Too many previous examples of unfailing encroachment. In the end they will do and take what they please, despite public opposition.

Have they tried blaming Brexit yet? 😆

    Entitlements?

  7. SMueller says:

    easy to fix
    just stop food aid
    stop medical aid
    close International Court of Justice
    close International Atomic Energy Agency

after all “what have the UN ever done for us”

  8. SMueller says:

I see lots of refugee tents with UNHCR written on them. I assume this is not the UN that has financial difficulties that makescertain peoples day. it must be a mistake and should be ushcr as it is surely funded by the benevolent US?

If only the UN would stick to humanitarian work – but it doesn’t and tries to act like an elected body, which it isn’t.

the planet never needed saving. Only my wallet does.

They should turn for a guidance to Greta, as usual. I don’t see any reason to give these halfwits any money.

  13. ivan says:

This is an organisation that should have been disbanded way back in the 60s or 70s before the idiots decided that they should be the world government.

The fact they are running out of other peoples money should show just where their allegiance lies – with the doctrine of Karl Marks.

  14. oldbrew says:

‘Saving the planet’ is another case of the UN inventing a role for itself by making a fake crisis. Remember the ozone hole nonsense?

Geophysical Research Letters, a joumal of the American Geophysical Union, published a scientific paper by scientists from Norwegian and Russian institutes demonstrating that the thickness of the ozone layer over Russia is determined by meteorology, not chemistry.

Easy. Make the countries being sued by St Greta pay up extra. Sorted

First off get rid of that awful UN Peace Keeping force. Completely!
They provide no peace, and are a drain on resources, while endangering the countries they visit with illnesses, diseases, and corruption.

    Second remove the UN-IPCC. Completely!
Utter waste of money in their avowed mission to find the human cause of CO2 global warming (aka climate change). Global warming does not exist outside of what nature allows, therefore the entire UN-IPCC circus is just a waste of money.

With those two gone the UN would have more than enough budget to get on and generate all those diplomatic and bureaucratic irrelevancies it has tasked itself to do.

  17. Gamecock says:

    “Isn’t saving the planet humanitarian”

This big ol’ dirt ball flying around the sun doesn’t care what we do. We need saving, not the planet.

    WARNING: course language:

The problem with socialism is that it so quickly runs out of others money?
