Legacy of Climategate – 10 years later

Interesting reading especially for teenage ‘climate activists’ who won’t remember the uproar at the time.

Climate Etc.

by Judith Curry

My reflections on Climategate 10 years later, and also reflections on my reflections of 5 years ago.

The main thing that seems to have happened in the past ten years is that the predictions by the consensus have gotten more tenuously connected to reality while the political strength of the consensus has increased dramatically.

  2. oldbrew says:

The recovery from the Climategate emails debacle was going quite well for alarmists – apart from ‘the pause’ – until Trump came along and dumped the Paris ‘accord’.

OTOH the data tampering and overheating climate models have carried on regardless, and despite the obvious failure of the Arctic sea ice to melt and other dud predictions the doom-mongering has got more extreme.

Aye, dunno what ‘s going on in the Euro media this now – german tv full of it too. ( tonight about Shipping and Exhaust pollution in europe … )
Watched the BBC lies and propaganda about Climategate this evening andas I write “Climate change by Numbers” on BBC4 too amongst several on tonight.
Never mind , on QT ( 1/2 listening to it…. Gent gave the politicians Hull for their behaviour) but its real sickening DEPRESSING listening to almost ANY tv / radio show where there is always someone promotng the ideology of this climate rubbish….

  8. ren says:

It seems that circulation over Europe is slowly changing its direction. Note that low over Germany it is pushed west instead of east. This is already the visible effect of the broken polar vortex.

  9. ren says:

The polar vortex forecast indicates a high above Scandinavia.

  12. Phoenix44 says:

I think it’s fair to say that if Climategate had been Physicsgate or – worse – Big Pharmagate, there would have been a massive outcry from scientists and governments. But climate science doesn’t have to either right or virtuous. It is merely a vehicle, first for the outsized egos and Messiah complexes of Mann, Thurnberg and Gore, and second for the anti-capitalist Left. It is politics, not science.

Tony Thomas – “I’d rather respect the Mafia”…

Climate Science Proves Scams Don’t Die of Exposure
    Date: 15/11/19

Today, anyone questioning this colossal enterprise is told to “respect the science”. Based on the Climategate emails released in 2009, 2013 and 2015, I’d rather respect the Mafia, who at least don’t claim to be saving the planet. For example, today we’re told that warming of 2 deg C above pre-industrial level is some sort of a tipping point of doom. Phil Jones, Director of the Climatic Research Unit, emailed on September 6, 2007, that the supposed 2-degree limit was “plucked out of thin air”, a throwaway line in an early 1990s paper from the catastrophists at the Potsdam Climate Impacts Institute.

    NOVEMBER 15, 2019
Heavy snow leaves one dead, 300,000 homes without power in France

Up to 30 centimetres (one foot) of snow had fallen at higher elevations near the Alps in less than 24 hours, and 15 centimetres was reported at the Lyon airport.

    – – –
Who said snow would disappear from large parts of Europe and elsewhere? It’s only mid-November.

  15. ivan says:

oldbrew, we’ve had snow here up in the pyrenees for the past week and all the locals consider it normal with the old ones saying it will be worse next year.

Since I moved here 30 odd years ago I have noticed the snow cover runs in cycles of about 25 years and we are ready for the big one now.

  16. ren says:

In the east US the temperature is like in January. It will not change.

  17. oldbrew says:

They’re putting their alarmist predictions a lot further into the future than they used to…

Arctic Ocean could be ice-free for part of the year as soon as 2044
    – by Katharine Reich, University of California, Los Angeles

    ‘as soon as’ 2044? 😂
Those climate models are good for a laugh at least. The more CO2 there is in the air the longer it takes for it to supposedly have any noticeable effect. But the penny never drops when there’s a dogma to follow.

  18. ren says:

Soon the frosty north-eastern high will attack Europe. Still January temperature in east US. Unusual frost will occur in central Siberia.

Delingpole: Climategate 10 Years On – The Bastards Have Got Away With It!
    17 Nov 2019

“Move along. Nothing to see here,” the Climate Industrial Complex is telling us about Climategate.

My own involvement in Climategate was actually quite modest. At least, the heavy lifting was done by people much more diligent and scientifically minded than me, such as Steve McIntyre, Willis Eschenbach, Joanna Nova, Anthony Watts, Lucia Liljegren, Andrew Montford, Ross McKitrick, Fred Pearce, Roger Tallbloke, Christopher Booker, David Rose, Jeff Id, Jean S, Steven Mosher, and many others. All I did, really, was give the story the spin, invective, colour and context which made it readily comprehensible to the general reader — and which thus bagged me most of the credit for it.

Here is my summary of what happened.
