Bring UK petrol and diesel car ban forward to 2032, say Government advisers

Raising taxes on something you’re trying to get rid of doesn’t look like a great way to raise lots of money. But it should make a big dent in the culprits’ political popularity, especially with car and motorbike dealers. Another product of climate fantasies.

The ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars should be brought forward from 2035 to 2032 “at the latest”, a group of politicians and scientists that advise the Government has said.

The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) – an independent body that advises ministers on decarbonisation – is asking the Government to provide “detailed policy arrangements” to enable the 2032 ban, reports Auto Express.

The CCC also advises that sales of new motorcycles with an internal combustion engine should be outlawed.

As well as accelerating the ban on sales of all cars and vans with an internal combustion engine, the UK’s road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty) system should be changed even more to further encourage people into buying zero-emission vehicles.

The report said: “Company car tax reforms, alongside purchase grants and preferential tax treatment, are providing a strong consumer incentive to purchase low-carbon vehicles. More could be done with Vehicle Excise Duty to strengthen incentives for all buyers and to discourage the most polluting vehicle purchases.”

Transport secretary Grant Shapps told BBC Radio 5 Live that a consultation on the ban will look at the date, explaining that it will come into effect somewhere between 2032 and 2035.

huh, that’s ALLI need, coming in tonight , trying to get a job done before the “forecast impending THunderstorms” – which don’t appear whilst trying to get in a quick crop of Hay. Bio Fuel problems in machines used irregularly, Electrics stuff playing up – condensation, corrosion, damp dust shorting out….. All I want is cool fresh air Blown thru the stored slightly immature hay to dry – and once reliable electric motors and generators driven by Diesel are now causing problems.Would these Commities have a preponderance of SAGE or Dominic type individuals within them, perchance ?

“But it should make a big dent in the culprits’ political popularity, especially with car and motorbike dealers.”

Car and bike dealers are smart enough to see that votes are pulled in only to form governments. Pols will never be true to those voters. Elections will never solve “climate” (it’s not really about climate) issues elite are ABSOLUTELY determined to cause for everyday normal people.

  3. Gamecock says:

12 years should give current CCC time to retire, so they aren’t around any more when their mess explodes. DEMAND they make it 2022. Right NOW, while they are still here to face the consequences.

Are there any motorcycles being sold without combustion engines?

Riding a 500 cc bike is quite a thrill. Don’t think you can get that with batteries. Bikes already have limited range with fuel tanks (volume goes up as cube of linear dimension; and shrinks as fast going the other way). That’s going to hit battery volume hard, so crappy range and very slow touring with lots of stops to charge…

You also don’t have as much opportunity to improve aerodynamics or use rock hard small tires as the rider “just is” and you must have sticky tires for corners and curves or you slide out.

Looks like antique motorcycles will increase greatly…

    Zero Motorcycles

This Santa Cruz, Calif.-based electric motorcycle manufacturer has accelerated from zero to hero in a hurry.

A built-in Bluetooth function lets you use your smartphone to fine-tune powertrain operation—and also as a secondary real-time instrument panel.

Where are the political parties offering a credible energy policy, not the net zero idiocy?

  6. wilpretty says:

Why not start with leisure boats.
A government subsidy to fit all leisure boats with sails.
    Create plenty of employment.
The government are daft enough to consider that.

  7. Paul Vaughan says:

“Where are the political parties offering a credible energy policy, not the net zero idiocy?”

Let’s stop being naive: The military won’t back that.

  8. Stephen Richards says:

Barmy Benn clearly didn’t like the brexit vote so now he is going after the plebs cars. Gummer is in there somewhere as well i think.

There are quite a few motocycles for sale with electric motors. I think even Harley has one. They go like hell but die after 160miles.

    Dear Ecomentalists, FOAD.

“A government subsidy to fit all leisure boats with sails”

Then you’ll need another subsidy to remove all the bridges the masts won’t fit under…

  11. wilpretty says:

‘Then you’ll need another subsidy to remove all the bridges the masts won’t fit under…’

In olden times a sailing barge could lower it’s mast to pass through a bridge.
H&S would not permit that nowadays.

  12. From afar it would appear a) all UK politicians are stupid b) all government ministers are weak minded and can not control advisers and public servants c) public servants are riddled with socialist idiots who have no idea of economics or technology.

  13. ivan says:

Simple answer, repeal the Climate Change Act (2008) and all legislation derived from it. That will remove the CCC and all the supposed ‘scientist’ advisors, it would also allow past and present members of the CCC to be charged with insider trading.

Meanwhile this now on German TV News rbb24 : “Clever Shuttle” has closed down in Berlin with loss of over 400 jobs, and then they got a FridaysFF bloke to blether about closing Coal fired stations ..bla bla bla and Covid, I could understand – but “lost the heid wi it” and switched off!

End the CCC, not our civilization.
