Extinction Rebellion facing ‘organised crime’ curbs

Looks like the UK government and the police are finally getting tired of allowing themselves to be made to look weak by XR climate buffoons. Tolerance doesn’t work with fanatics.

Extinction Rebellion could be treated as an organised crime group as part of a major crackdown on its activities that may also include new protections for MPs, judges and the press, the Telegraph can disclose.

Whitehall sources said Boris Johnson and Priti Patel have asked officials to take a “fresh look” at how the group is classified under the law, after the Prime Minister described its blockading of major printing presses as “completely unacceptable”.

On Saturday, police were criticised for failing to act more quickly after the blockade began on Friday evening.

Hertfordshire police faced anger for stating that officers were “working to facilitate the rights of both the protesters and those affected by their presence” but protesters were not cooperating.

“It’s clear they’re not your normal protest group, so you have to look at them in a different way,” said one Whitehall source.

Ministers are also considering new powers making it easier for police to stop demonstrators from entering particular areas, bolstering protections for parts of the UK’s critical national infrastructure, and explicitly outlawing disruption to “tenets of democracy”, such as MPs voting in Parliament, judges attending court, and the printing and distribution of the free press.

The move comes after nearly 200 activists used vehicles and bamboo structures to block roads outside major printing works at Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, and Knowsley, near Liverpool.

The presses print The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, along with Rupert Murdoch-owned News Corp titles including the Sun and the Times.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) accused the newspapers of failing to report on climate change and chained themselves to the bamboo structures to obstruct the roads outside the works.

But there are fears the group has been infiltrated by far left groups, who want it to pursue a more overtly militant socialist agenda.

The country gets held to ransom by 200 people, presumably because tiny groups are the opposite of populism and so must be very clever and well-informed.

    Not founded by them?

  4. MrGrimNasty says:

Fears? XR was Occupy re-branded. Why do so many of the same people belong to Atifa/BLM/XR/Momentum…… It’s worse than being far-left, it’s some sort of Marxist/Anarchist/Fascist hybrid. The people participating in all this ‘social justice’ nonsense have many individual aims, but the primary common aim is to destroy capitalism/democracy/societal cohesion for starters.

  5. oldbrew says:

MrGrim: ‘the primary common aim is to destroy capitalism/democracy/societal cohesion for starters.’

Sounds like the attitude of people who don’t have earned incomes to lose?

Tony Thomas covered them recently, their current action was announced months back:

“ABC print ran a puff piece for XR last October, at the tail-end quoting Stuart Basden, one of XR’s 15 co-founders, that “climate” is just a pretext for XR’s societal overhaul. Basden’s goal is to overturn white supremacy, the patriarchy, Eurocentrism, hetero-normativity and “class hierarchy”. Basden says: “So Extinction Rebellion isn’t about the climate. It’s not even about ‘climate justice’, although that is also important. If we only talk about the climate, we’re missing the deeper problems plaguing our culture.

And if we don’t excise the cause of the infection, we can never hope to heal from it. This article is … a call to the XR community to never say we’re a climate movement. Because we’re not. We’re a Rebellion. And we’re rebelling to highlight and heal from the insanity that is leading to our extinction. Now tell the truth and act like it.”

Big surprise, XR has been part-funded by the J. Paul Getty oil heirs’ $US5 billion wealth. The Getty’s Climate Emergency Fund has given $US600,000 to XR and one of the Getty heir’s websites touts XR’s work: “The only way to force a change is to disrupt the status quo through legal, non-violent direct action.” XR’s UK finance director, Andrew Medhurst, oversaw a UK inflow of £2.6m of general donations last year.

The other UK founder in 2018 was Gail Bradbrook, who met up with Hallam like this: In 2016 she travelled to Costa Rica “seeking a ‘mystical’ transformative experience to draw her out of a personal and political impasse. While tripping on ayahuasca, peyote, and other powerful psychedelics, the environmentalist prayed for the ‘codes for social change.’ Her prayer was answered when, upon returning to the UK, she met Roger Hallam, a 53-year-old organic farmer-turned-civil disobedience expert, at King’s College London. Among his writings were “Escape from the Neoliberal Higher Education Prison: A Proposal for a New Digital Communist University.”

In June last year, Bradbrooke was invited as an “expert witness” to a BEIS committee hearing:

“Following the Prime Minister’s commitment to the UK cutting carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, and the publication of the Committee on Climate Change’s (CCC) report, the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee examine the rationale for going faster to hit the net zero target, hearing from witnesses including Gail Bradbrook, Extinction Rebellion, Isabella O’Dowd, Climate and Energy Specialist, WWF, and Baroness Bryony Worthington, Environmental Defense Fund” ( and co-author with Ed Miliband of the Climate Change Act).

Police Accused Of Enabling Extinction Rebellion Newspaper Blockade
    SEP 6, 2020

Police have been criticized for failing to halt a demonstration intended to stifle the freedom of the press as Extinction Rebellion was accused of crossing the line “from protest to planned criminality”.

The condemnation came as it emerged warnings the group – known as XR – was planning to target newspaper printworks were reported nine months ago.

    Organised?
Disorganised crimes against the UK surely. These people are left-wing anarchists, organisation is not their strong point. World wars have been started by the irresponsible stupidity of anarchists.
To protect the nation XR should be outlawed, it is a terrorising gang of subversive anarchists that has vowed to bring about the downfall of this nation by criminal acts.

It is not any surprise the BBC cosies-up to the XR leaders, as the BBC is the same organisation that propagandises about Women Suffragette terrorists, and rarely mentions the suffragists. (see https://www.parliament.uk/about/living-heritage/transformingsociety/electionsvoting/womenvote/overview/startsuffragette-/ )
Moderates changed the law, terrorist criminals became infamous (in the warped BBC thinking they’re sainted).

  10. BoyfromTottenham says:

Surely XR have crossed the line and can be charged with sedition? Or can’t the DPP find a judge that will convict them?

A decade ago so-called “experts” in the climate discussion community could have simply outlined this to save the world a lot of trouble.

The other part of the censored message goes down the other side of the same coin, pointing to 744. I will outline that and about 2 dozen other important insights elsewhere.

I’m deleting all the entertainment content in dozens of messages that are on deck. Why? We now live under a regime of brute censorship and brutal financial tyranny. We are not safe speaking freely.

Done on the 2400 thread. It’s in the moderation filter there.

How about all the academics who signed a widely hailed letter supporting XR?

  24. M Simon says:

I originally posted this in the wrong thread.

To get any attention you have to be very simple and debunk their argument from its internal inconsistencies. I’m using this.

Water vapor is a greenhouse gas. There is on average 50 times as much of it in the atmosphere as CO2. Explain how CO2 is dominant.

This is defensible since the absorption bands of CO2 and water vapor largely overlap except for the low energy 15um band.
