This takes climate pretension to a new level. Bizarre.

WHO WE ARE — The Centre for Climate Repair at Cambridge is working in affiliation with Cambridge Zero at the University of Cambridge to safeguard our planet from the disastrous effects of global warming.

We are a cross-disciplinary research institution, aiming to develop and understand the solutions that will safeguard our planet from the disastrous consequences of global warming.
[Talkshop note: their repetition, not ours.]

RESEARCH THEMES
Deep and rapid emissions reductions

Greenhouse gas removal

Restoring broken climate systems
– – –
Each of these themes has a ‘find out more’ link. Example:

Restoring broken climate systems

Researching solutions to restore damaged climate systems, for example refreezing the poles and preventing major ice sheets (e.g. Greenland) from breaking off and causing sea levels to rise.

What measures and technologies could be safely deployed to return critical elements of the climate system to an undamaged state? Under what circumstances would these need to be deployed?

Which authorities would need to allow the deployment of these measures? What are, amongst others, the legal, economic, political and ethical implications of this?

How can we ensure global cooperation in developing and possibly deploying these measures, in such a way that promotes peace and stability?

Comments
  1. Peter says:

They needn’t bother. Greenhouse gas absorption bands are saturated.

  2. JohnM says:

Good grief ! Are these people real ?

  3. Ask CCRatC what their official opinion is of PhD-level climatologists and atmospheric physicists who question IPCC reports. If they are as predictable as I think they are, they’ll either cry “97% consensus” or regurgitate accusations about AGW skeptics on the payroll of ‘Big Oil’ without being able to offer an iota of useful info on how skeptics’ science-based assessments are wrong.

  4. Coeur de Lion says:

Do they mean reduce CO2? Or take a giant fridge up to the Arctic Circle? Who is funding this nonsense?

  5. hunterson7 says:

Their goals don’t make rational sense.

  6. stpaulchuck says:

just more rent seekers scaring the sheeple with dire threats of imminent doom “the disastrous consequences of global warming” <– none of which has presented itself as yet after more than 20 years of harangue by these jerks.

  7. ivan says:

Oh dear, another set of wackademics that are being stupid and/or trying to get more tax payers money for themselves.

They obviously are NOT scientists in any shape or form as their manifesto shows since they know nothing about how the climate works or what nature needs for reliable renewable.

Maybe it would help if such wackademics actually got out of their ivory towers and looked at the real world without their rose tinted glasses. They would find it doesn’t run on pixie dust and unicorn farts but fossil fuel and CO2.

    How could this work?

‘Researching solutions to restore damaged climate systems, for example refreezing the poles and preventing major ice sheets (e.g. Greenland) from breaking off and causing sea levels to rise.’

Enormous amounts of energy would be required, which don’t exist in such areas. Not to mention that ice melt is seasonal in the Arctic.

  9. oldbrew says:

Their Briefing Document kicks off with some of the usual boilerplate alarmist assertions about the future climate, with no evidence in sight.

  10. ivan says:

oldbrew, those two documents show just how divorced from reality they are, to say they were living in la-la land would be an understatement unless the whole thing is just a front to make each of then rich from the British tax payers money.

  11. Mack says:

Ivan, I think you hit the nail on the head with ‘unless the whole thing is just a front to make each of them rich from the British tax payers’ money’. Bingo! Climate alarmism UK stylee in a nutshell. And, with Boris opening the QE cash taps even more after bankrupting the nation with his Covid response there’s still plenty of dosh to be had before the country crashes and burns.

  12. vuurklip says:

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”

    ― Albert Einstein

Wrong! There are THREE things: He left out human hubris.

Ban on new petrol and diesel cars in UK from 2030 under PM’s green plan
    By Roger Harrabin
    BBC environment analyst

    Published 7 minutes ago

It is part of what the prime minister calls a “green industrial revolution” to tackle climate change and create jobs in industries such as nuclear.

Critics of the plan say the £4bn allocated is far too small for the scale of the challenge.

  14. Phoenix44 says:

We are a bunch of mediocrities who think we are so important and so clever we can save the world.

  15. Chaswarnertoo says:

The insanity of the watermelons grows daily.

  16. edhoskins says:

If you want to reduce CO2 levels there is only one way: have a true glaciation and then work out how much you like that.

  17. Tebergman Phone says:

Just in time to ask Biden administration for startup funds.

  18. oldbrew says:

No climate repair needed here — 3 degrees south of the equator. Glaciers can recover if snowfall continues like this.

  19. oldbrew says:

Another round of the usual emissions nonsense from the ‘climate repairers’…

    NOVEMBER 24, 2020
To reach net zero emissions, the UK must go beyond turning off the carbon taps

A key question remains regarding the emissions which are deemed to be unavoidable, such as some of the emissions from agriculture. What should we do about those? The clearest answer is that we need to invest in technologies which sequester carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses at the same rate we emit them. These include things such as capturing carbon directly from the air, growing crops which are burnt for bio-energy and the emitted carbon captured and stored, increasing carbon content of soils, growing new forests, or even using more timber in buildings.
