Call to show ‘global leadership’ with North Sea production cuts

No end to the manufactured climate hysteria as the oil industry is put in the spotlight once again, on the now usual pretext of net zero ‘carbon emissions’. How tinkering with the tiny 0.04% of the atmosphere belonging to carbon dioxide could make much difference to anything, is not considered relevant and is just presented as a fact, which is not correct.

The UK and Scottish governments have been urged to set five-yearly targets for North Sea production cuts, using the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to “show global leadership” and “reshape” the industry for net zero, reports Energy Voice.

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) made several suggestions as to how ministers could take advantage of the Covid-19 crisis, which has already seen a drop in oil extraction.

But it said the UK Government must take responsibility for the “overwhelming majority of the costs of transition” – as Westminster has “received the overwhelming majority of oil and gas revenues”.

The think tank wants the two administrations to work together to “set clear five-yearly targets” to cut the amount of oil and gas extracted, consumed in and exported from the UK to help achieve net zero emissions by the Scottish and UK government targets of 2045 and 2050 respectively.

It also suggested the law should be changed to cap extractions to prevent the UK from exporting surplus fuels that generate carbon emissions abroad.

Oil and Gas UK has already set an industry target of slashing emissions in half by 2030 and 90% by 2040, ahead of the UK’s net zero legal target of 2050.

By acting now, the IPPR said ministers in Scotland and London could “show global leadership and demonstrate the economic, environmental and reputational benefits of being a major historical oil and gas producer to announce a timetable to wind down fossil fuel production to align with net zero”.

The Net Zero North Sea report stressed: “We must reshape the oil and gas industry, to help us achieve net zero emissions and restore nature in Scotland and across the UK.

“Doing so will also require a long-term plan for reducing oil and gas extraction from UK waters over the coming years.”

    i.e. Left wing !

It’s hard to believe that anyone gives these forecasters any credence. Quite apart from the fact that the removal of hardware from the area is, I believe, already costed in and legislated for in a long ago have they any idea of the cost of removal and returning the sea bed to it’s previous condition.
And of course, there would be a department set up to administer, at public cost, this removal. Anyone remember BNOC and the feather bedding and overpayments they used, until some semblance of sense prevailed?
Have an inspectorate, by all means, it would be a great place for retired/redundant drillers and sub-sea operators to take up, after all, they were the ones who put it there in the first place

What are these people going to do when the plastic runs out or becomes too expensive to use? There’s going to be a lot of dying in this big old brave world the Elite are trying to create. Wonder if they’ve tagged themselves to be the first in the pit?

    ” Left wing !”

OK stop right there and catch yourself sleep-walking: BORIS JOHNSON HAS A MAJORITY RIGHT WING GOVERNMENT. How f***ing “left wing” is that????

Wake up people. You are NOT safe with the right wing on this issue. The savaging is coming FROM BOTH left and right elite. That’s how inverted totalitarianism works. You’re like the dog being tricked by a smart master waving a stick left and right.

Tallbloke: Please forgive the aggressive lunge, but someone brave enough (or crazy enough if thinking that way helps you be tolerant) has to issue the wakeup call.

May God bless you all, especially those of you bankrupted into homelessness in the “home” land with the pope’s naive support for these savage human rights violators BOTH left and right.

Conservatives will regret Boris Johnson’s radical Net Zero targets

The Prime Minister’s radical decarbonisation plans will burden Britons with astronomical costs which will trigger rising public discontent.

These severe costs offer no discernible benefit in terms of climate, which is supposed to be the main point of the whole policy.

OB: IT’s a military strategy. In this case IT had to pivot right. J. Corbyn was supposed to do all these things but Farage supporters made it such that the burden fell to Johnson. Ask yourself this: Which military in the world is most fearful and of what? (no need to print “the fearful” answer driving fanatical west turn lies…)

    Predatorial Rich Formal IT

“Populists” will by necessity align as they must on reconfigured political axes, but it will never affect their beliefs.

Both left and right are wise to respectfully welcome both populists AND their beliefs.

There have never been more people at extreme risk of becoming homeless in the “home” land, but “maximum press year camp aim” seize only “opportunity”.

Back in the 90s we had the “think globally, act locally” concept.
Recycle. Don’t drive. Don’t fly type of stuff. It was easy to do. I never fly. I barely drive.

However, the voluntary lower-middle-class is more difficult for IT (inverted totalitarianism) to stage manage because raw necessity has the poor hooked more strongly than puppet masters failing to appreciate latitude afforded by luxury.

Today’s “environmental” movement (it really is no such thing anymore) is focused on attracting donors and protesters even if they don’t want to change their own individual behavior.

The paradigm shift reassures potential new donors and protesters they can keep flying all over the world — no lifestyle changes required — as long as they can help arrange the optics of appearing to bully industry.

IT massaged the environment status quo to “net only shuffled” impact. Puppet masters “just” aim for formal stage management with rich choreography.

Industry execs find formal comfort in “IT’s rich” choreography. They naturally fall right in with “opportunistic” trouble-makers.

They won’t save the “populist” grass roots experiencing deliberate financial genocide.

They don’t care if by stealth campaign hard-working people are SUDDENLY REDUCED to homelessness in the “home” land.

Western “populist” human rights are being steam-rolled and the media STILL thinks “populists” pay their bills with money from an oil platform.

LEFT with “$0 climate beliefs” HAVE NOTHING to do with an oil platform.

Traditional left-right political groupings are just a nuisance with an economic model that drives a few to infinity while “populist” masses are SYSTEMATICALLY CRUSHED to $0.

Naivety aside to “open doors” left shut: IT’s oil platforms revived UN dare new management will rather slave for slick import than help look king for “home grow win populist”.

Timely Alberta LOW Lie U-N’s Group: NO. social con tact. Red nos. ON-line strategy when IT matters most: RIGHT NOW DON’T HELP Joe “luck whirled D-own” “with oily exec use US” from Alberta.in Jan. KO!!

Maybe if they wanted to clean up the environment they should start with the useless three armed poles that are sprouting up just offshore and in the picturesque countryside and start constructing either high efficiency coal fired or nuclear power stations. That way it becomes a win, win situation – the population get cheep reliable power and the trees and food plants get the life giving CO2. The only people that lose out on that are the wackademics in their ivory towers and think tanks.

  11. Gamecock says:

‘How tinkering with the tiny 0.04% of the atmosphere belonging to carbon dioxide could make much difference to anything, is not considered relevant and is just presented as a fact, which is not correct.’

Coincedentally, UK’s contribution to atmospheric CO2 is also 0.04%. So 0.0016% of the atmosphere is from UK. That certainly justifies destroying your country.

We will be happy to take your jobs.
