The Sun is more than capable of regulating itself. Attempts by humans to interfere with its effects are by definition ill-conceived. No trend in Arctic summer sea ice data since the early 2000s, for example, despite so-called experts claiming it was doomed several years ago, so who needs any intervention?

Nine of the hottest years in human history [Talkshop comment – meaning since 1979, when satellite data became moderately reliable] have occurred in the last decade.

Without a major shift in this climate trajectory, the future of life on Earth is in question, claims Phys.org.

Should humans, whose fossil-fueled society is driving climate change [Talkshop comment – evidence-free assertion], use technology to put the brakes on global warming?

Every month since September 2019 the Climate Intervention Biology Working Group, a team of internationally recognized experts in climate science and ecology, has gathered remotely to bring science to bear on that question and the consequences of geoengineering a cooler Earth by reflecting a portion of the sun’s radiation away from the planet — a climate intervention strategy known as solar radiation modification (SRM).

The group’s seminal paper, “Potential ecological impacts of climate intervention by reflecting sunlight to cool Earth,” was published in the most recent Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

“Participating in this working group has been quite eye-opening for me,” said co-author Peter Groffman, an ecosystem ecologist at the Advanced Science Research Center at The Graduate Center, CUNY and the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. “I was unaware that modeling climate intervention was so advanced, and I think that climate modelers were unaware of the complexities of the ecological systems being affected. It is a strong reminder of the importance of the need for multi-disciplinary analysis of complex problems in environmental science.”
. . .
The costs and technology needed to reflect the Sun’s heat back into space are currently more attainable than other climate intervention ideas like absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air.

The working group anticipates their lively discussions and open access paper will encourage an explosion of scientific investigation into how a climate intervention strategy known as solar radiation modification (SRM), in tandem with greenhouse gas emissions reduction, would affect the natural world.

Just had a whole load of gorebull warming blocking out the lovely sunshine, melting now.

  3. The obsession with keeping sea ice is misguided. Most of the ice on Greenland and Antarctica was put there during the times that sea ice and ice shelves were gone. Look at the data, the most ice accumulation is during the warmest times. When the ice shelf and sea ice donuts around Antarctica and in the Arctic, there is little evaporation and snowfall on the sequestered ice on the land. The land ice depletes in times of large ice shelves and sea ice cover. Open oceans near land is necessary to replenish the ice. Every cold period is a time when land ice is depleting and the warming occurs and removes the sea ice to replenish the land ice. Alternating warm and cold periods in polar regions is how it works, is how it is self correcting. The thermostat setting is the temperature that sea ice freezes and thaws. The powerful control is the presence and absence of sea ice. If you block the sun there will be less energy to operate the ice machines and ice will slowly disappear from Greenland and Antarctic. We will grow less green things for food, less for biomass, less to evaporate oceans and replenish our lakes and rivers. There will be drought most everywhere. Evaporation requires the solar energy. We depend on water and ice for life, The oceans would rise because of less rain and snow.
People who have no understanding of internal natural cycles of climate or anything else should not be allowed to mess with the climate. I do not think Russia and China and India are that stupid, they would likely stop any serious effort to block the sun. Western countries have lost all ability to do any kind of honest science, they would allow it.
Climate change is normal, natural, necessary, unstoppable and self correcting. We did not suddenly take over with a man made fraction of a trace gas. We have added 100 parts per million, that is ONEMOLECULE PER TEN THOUSAND. Water, in all of its changing states has a sea ice temperature setting that it will keep alternating, independently in the two hemispheres. Sometimes the ice cycles in the Arctic are in Phase with the ice cycles in the Antarctic and sometimes they are not. Study the ice core records.

The Climate Intervention Biology Working Group should be gathered and placed in Spandau Prison for 20 years. They threaten the lives of billions of people.

more BS cherry picked data and outright lies to confuse and alarm the cheap seats

They used to say, “since the beginning of the Industrial Age…” but apparently gave that up when folks discovered the 1930’s heat waves and extremely hot temperatures. So now ‘human history’ is only 40 to 50 years long?? Why are these charlatans even given a platform any more?

  7. Coeur de Lion says:

    It’s gonna get colder anyway

  8. oldbrew says:

The difference between hottest and not hottest in this context is barely detectable and beyond the accuracy of the data, so amounts to nothing worth discussing.

March 31, 2021: What a difference 20 years makes. Today the sun is blank and featureless as Solar Cycle 25 struggles to pull solar activity from the doldrums of a deep Solar Minimum. In March 2001, however, the solar disk was peppered with sunspots, including a monster named “AR9393.”

Before this lot launch into the logical? groupthink mess of GHE and statistical navel gazing of vaste dubious database bases, I suggest they bone up on the thermodynamic behaviour of water endemic in the Atmospheric Rankine Cycle known as the Hydrocycle. Large movements of energy are involved here with very considerable influence on the behaviour of the current and past state of the climate.

Sky News (via Oxford Univ.) is ‘measuring’ temperatures with a 9 decimal places live counter 🤣

See: How much temperatures have risen since 1880

They parade their dismal ignorance by saying:
This increasing number is the clearest measure of how the world has changed since the industrial revolution in the 19th Century.

The rising temperature since then shows how much global warming is created by humans.

    Idiotic.
