Everyone who matters from the Biden administration wants to be seen as ‘caring about the planet and doing something about climate change. They are now tripping all over themselves to head to the upcoming United Nations climate conference.
Nearly everyone else attending this conference will be looking for—actually, demanding—a handout from the U.S. and the other more economically advanced nations in the European Union (EU) and elsewhere.
President Joe Biden and at least 13 senior officials from his administration will be traveling to Glasgow, Scotland for the United Nation’s 26th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (“UNFCC/COP26”). Conference attendees will be gathering, interestingly, on Halloween, with formal sessions starting the following day.
Accompanying the president will be Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry; Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken; the EPA administrator, the USAID administrator, secretaries of Energy, Interior and Transportation…

There must be a lot of politicians gambling they won’t be in power when the wheels finally come off their absurd climate posturing policies.
Ongoing problem for natural-climate enthusiasts suffering UNwanted political-poison pills (should be rightly noted rather than left silent) :
Endless energy doom and gloom + endless news cycles about climate meetings are not, never have been, and never will be interesting.
Since ~feb. 2020 climate blogs appear designed (on purpose to deliberately abuse readers) to spray neverending toxic, bad, disappointing news.
Contrast: We used to have an interesting discussion about natural climate & geophysical variables.
The way it looks: Dark forces insidiously transformed the focus (shortly after perihelion 2020).
Anyone who can, please share links to positive sites where there is no news of un, cop, etc. — and the focus is just on healthy exploration of natural geophysical patterns (i.e. not just places where people go to shallowly spit and react negatively to the latest disappointing “news”).
Of course it isn’t up to me what political campaigns feel they “have to” do for whatever reasons, but I do choose on this occasion to share perspective no doubt shared (perhaps silently) by others.

Workers Wanted: Miners Offered $100k Per Year As Coal Prices Soar
By ZeroHedge – Oct 07, 2021
With coal prices worldwide screaming to all-time highs ahead of winter as China and Europe scramble for supplies, the US coal industry is failing to find new miners willing to do the dirty work as demand soars.

COP26: The Queen, 95, will ‘regretfully’ not be attending climate change summit in Glasgow

Long may she reign. Unlike Boris who will have real trouble when COP26 turns out to be as “successful” as the previous 25 COP(outs).
I hope the weather in the UK turns out warmer than usual in the UK this coming winter.
For those who can use it, I hope you have a big stock of wood. It might be handy and you can always claim that it doesn’t emit ‘carbon’ (Drax, Germany, Denmark, Northern Ireland etc.)
O/T but 60 years ago my father on a trip to Germany was most taken with the “baronial stoves”. Very large (side benches for sleeping on) enclosed fireplaces which heated the palace main hall. Much internal stone passages which absorbed heat and slowly released it at a moderate temperature. It was their efficiency that attracted his (engineer) interest. Has anyone made a smaller version suitable for a modern house (with no electricity)? If the government’s policy is to revert to the seventeenth century and dependence on wind and sunlight, they may make a comeback.
Hey ma man, sure glad to see the US still has coal mines and good old parson steam turbine power stations that burn it and give you good folks reliable and affordable electriciteee. Here in mud island bonkers Johnston and his liberal and labour eco fanatics have closed our coal mines and almost bulldozed all our coal burning power stations. Not only was that totally dumb (it was done after they opened our north sea gas pipelines to OC and CC gas turbine power stations in the 90’s) as surprise surprise our NG reserves have almost gone. So MI is now in great Perl of being shut down and many old folks suffering from the cold and the rest of us unable to afford natural gas. So keep fracking and shipping it over mate and lets hope no subs attack the LNG tankers – or a big bear doesn’t break an east west NG pipeline?
Please don’t get angry at the Believers of the One and Only Settled Science.
Enjoy it as a rare opportunity to extend the Halloween.

1988 : James Hansen And Tim Wirth Sabotaged The Air Conditioning In Congress
Posted on July 12, 2012 by stevengoddard
And did you also alter the temperature in the hearing room that day?
… What we did it was went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right? So that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room and so when the, when the hearing occurred there was not only bliss, which is television cameras in double figures, but it was really hot. … So Hansen’s giving this testimony, you’ve got these television cameras back there heating up the room, and the air conditioning in the room didn’t appear to work. So it was sort of a perfect collection of events that happened that day, with the wonderful Jim Hansen, who was wiping his brow at the witness table and giving this remarkable testimony.

‘Save your species’: UN uses dinosaur in fossil fuel message
In a video released on social media ahead of this year’s U.N. climate change summit, a computer-generated dinosaur bursts into the U.N.’s famous General Assembly hall in New York to tell world diplomats that “going extinct is a bad thing.”

Pathetic.
At least 90% of the COP attendees are very worried about subsidies and government grants going extinct.

The Baronial stove you describe could be a ” kachelofen”. This is a massive stone and metal construction, often with ornamental ceramic tiles. Although similar designs are electric the original ones are wood or coal powered – in some respects similar to an AGA cooker when the kitchen is rendered “toasty” by the massive hot lump of metal.
I have a 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 kW switchable electric kachelofen, on castors, weighing about 75 kg which I turned on for the first time just last night made by LHZ (Lucht Heitzung) in Germany. Ian.
Addendum. Just Google “kachelofen” for images and links to Swedish Masonry stoves, etc.
Zoeandianl, welcome. I was given a nice woodburning ‘cuisiniere’ by our neighbours in Brittany, who are selling up and moving soon. It took 3 of us and a strong sack barrow to shift it.
Incredible coincidence – my kachelofen (which means massive ceramic tile stove) which burns beech and pine nicely thank you, was just today checked by the regulator. He was more interested in feinstaub, dust particles than co2. Said he will get an ev service aut,o maybe, noticing the skyrocketing electric pricing.
I wondered what they use in Brittany, having just recently looked at the houses there. Not so much forest around.
There is still a lot of woodburning going on in Brittany, although a lot of the newer stoves use imported wood pellets rather than local split timber.
I’m not sure I like the drift in the conversation here. (Damned stoves).
My treasured little booklet, an ancient relic from John Thompson, says the specific heat of brickwork is 0.200, low compared to water at 1.00. Oil somewhere near 0.5. So using water as heat storage is five times better than stone.
For heating with electricity an oil filled elec heater is a more convenient appliance. And one does away with the particulates and the smoke which enters the house anyway. The pall of smoke around the houses were they are used here is thick and homogeneous. No fresh air for certain.
Then there is the question of efficiency. Apparently stoves are not better than 12-15%, and some monstrosity below 20%, since most of the heat/energy goes up the stack as hot gas and incomplete burn. Compared to that, same material burned in a dedicated power plant, one gets to some 35% efficiency of conversion to electricity, including transmission loss. And no smoke, no ash to clean, no ingrained particulates in clothing, furnishings and lungs.
Nostalgia for olden times? (bring back the old potty, it might turn out to be the healthier option; of course people with flooded houses know worse).

‘Atmospheric river’ drenches drought-stricken California
The National Weather Service called preliminary rainfall totals from the storm “staggering.” Four inches (10 centimeters) fell Sunday in downtown San Francisco, making it the fourth-wettest day on record for the city.
“It’s been a memorable past 24 hours for the Bay Area as the long talked-about atmospheric river rolled through the region,” the local weather office said Monday. “We literally have gone from fire/drought conditions to flooding in one storm cycle.”

From oldbrew says: October 29, 2021 at 5:50 pm
I do not know about the Californians, but such a situation is nothing less than a curse. First desiccate the land to destroy all of the harvest, then wash it away soil and all. Maybe the Californians have been ignoring their obligations to the gods.
But that is a lesson for all. Maybe someone would find this of some interest: https://mythandmegalithica.blogspot.com/2020/09/normal-0-microsoftinternetexplorer4.html

Do Glaswegians Mostly Breathe Nitrogen?
October 30, 2021 By jennifer
Just yesterday I was told that what is most important is not that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas or the amount of new ice accumulating at the South Pole, but that atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations are increasing. When I ventured that this could be a consequence of increasing temperatures I was shouted at. Specifically, I was told that while atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide-increase does lag behind temperature increases, this is not relevant, and this does not prove that carbon dioxide is not a greenhouse gas. I had to write that down to check I wasn’t missing something, that I was being thrown a non sequitur.
It is difficult having a rational and logical discussion with a true believer. I suspect they get very emotional very quickly, because climate change is a topic to which they are very attached, while knowing really very little about. It is something like an infatuation – not to be scrutinised, lest the feeling dissipates, and the individual find themselves all alone again and without a cause.
https://jennifermarohasy.com/2021/10/do-glaswegians-mostly-breathe-nitrogen/
Some Glaswegians used to drink meth’s stick the nut on anyone who didni come fi glesga – mostly Edinburgh townies – and built around 70% of the Worlds shipping in the open air. Ever since the Westminster cowards pulled the plug on empire the de-industrialisation of the UK started in the far north Scotland and tailed off south of Birmingham. And up until the early 2000’s most of the UK’s erstwhile manufacturing was sent to Asia Japan Taiwan – now China. As a result of the wholesale slaughter of large numbers of working and middle classes some Glaswegians are now hooked on heroine and have no jobs no houses no life and no hope. Cop 26 is a farce in technical terms of CO2 having no ability to cause any alleged warming around >250 PPM and always significantly lagged climatic Sun driven temperature ups and downs in all coherent high resolution ice core records – spanning the last million years or so. That said CO2 may indeed have been a good fast kick start (trigger) coming out of a cold phase – rather like a long hysteresis of a valve or switch in an either or condition – which otherwise would cause hunting. Far from being branded as so called CC denialist we as concerned citizens and as learned scientists engineers and physicists are actually trying to highlight to our politicians (and the public) that CO2 is not their smoking gun. We are also highlighting that low level O3 is exacerbating the Human made Urban Heat Island effect (when earth is replaced by concrete and brick and vast amounts of heat are added). And that no one in their right mind wants to be driving their car in cities and built up areas producing NOx as it is a very dangerous chemical that cause significant health issues. On the contrary many advocate the sensible use of ICE vehicles and more electrified transportation and CHP systems in the cities. Sadly however this is where the CO2 conn started by Hanson Thatcher et al becomes all too apparent as they have never had any intention of having a social dimension to tackle the real issues we all face. I.E. it is a sick ploy by the UN’s political elites e.g. BoJo-n-Co to make Glaswegians think new jobs and a cushy life is coming their way again in the so called green revolution. Put another way; if Glaswegians and the rest of the general public were told the truth they would stick the nut right on BoJo-n-Co’s noses. The French are right on the button in that respect – the UK only listens to force. So the real scary part of BoJo-n-Co’s “bat for Britain thinking” is the UK has no credible Army Navy or Air force to protect its citizens – never mind rule the high seas again.

Bad weather causes delays on train route to Glasgow Cop26 talks
Environment minister among those hit by delays, while suspected tornadoes are reported in some areas
Sun 31 Oct 2021 14.23 GMT
Rail travel routes for delegates heading to Cop26 in Glasgow, including the environment minister Zac Goldsmith, have been blocked, after stormy weather swept through the UK bringing suspected tornadoes to parts of the country.
A fallen tree on the west coast mainline between Rugby and Milton Keynes led Avanti West Coast to advise customers against travelling north from London on Sunday.
The operator said a train carrying dozens of delegates to the climate summit would need to be evacuated after an object hit power lines. It was being held at Milton Keynes and several scientists, journalists and government officials including Lord Goldsmith were onboard.
London North Eastern Railway, which operates trains to Glasgow on the east coast mainline, also warned customers against travelling after it said overhead wires at Peterborough had been damaged.

Having just come back to England by road from south-west Scotland, I can confirm even the main road in the area (A75) has streams of rainwater running alongside or even across it in places today, with mini-lakes in some farm fields alongside. Some local schools were closed due to blocked roads on Friday.
This is only about 80 miles south of Glasgow.
