The BBC says ‘Customers and an Oasis cover band are trapped at the Tan Hill Inn, near Keld, after heavy snowfall.’ It’s still only November, and the Met Office has forecast a mild winter. In fact parts of Scotland and the English North East also had wintry conditions with all kinds of damage going on.

A number of people had to sleep on the floor of Britain’s highest pub after Storm Arwen battered Yorkshire.

Twenty people, including an Oasis tribute band, were unable to leave the Tan Hill Inn in the Yorkshire Dales after being snowed in on Friday.

Elsewhere in the region, strong winds and snow have caused power cuts, fallen tress and travel disruption.

Stranded lorries led to the complete closure of the M1 northbound at Barnsley with severe traffic delays.

Staff at the Tan Hill Inn, which is 1,732ft (528m) above sea level, said they woke up to some 3ft (0.9m) of snow.

Anya Harnett, who works there, said about 60 people, including 40 pre-booked guests, are currently unable to leave due to the weather conditions.

Note: the post has been corrected to say the Met Office forecast a mild winter (not the BBC weather service).

It’s amazing how, despite all this climate change all around us, weather just seems the same as its always been pretty much every day.

Being stuck will become more frequent with electric vehicles.

The difference being, the pub won’t have power, either.

The snow’s not just high altitude.
Burnley vs. Tottenham has just been called off due to snow.

Storm Arwen: Repairs begin after worst storm damage in 20 years
    Published 1 hour ago

Repairs are under way after Storm Arwen wrought the “worst” damage to the North East’s power network in 20 years.

Northern Powergrid said it had restored power to 208,000 homes across the North East, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, but 32,000 were still affected by cuts.

Sections of overhead lines will need rebuilding after winds of up 98mph caused damage, a spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, customers who had gone to watch an Oasis tribute band at the Tan Hill pub in North Yorkshire on Friday have been snowed in for three nights.

Manager Nicola Townsend said everyone was in good spirits and that some people did not want leave.
