Hilarious – somebody must have been watching too many Hollywood fantasy movies. But why on earth is the Met Office paying for such juvenile nonsense?
– – –
It is a bleak forecast even by the Met Office’s standards – the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged, says the Daily Mail (via Climate Change Dispatch).

That is one of the doomsday scenarios set out in a report commissioned by the UK’s weather service to model the potential consequences of climate change.

The extraordinary report, called Shared Socioeconomic Pathways and developed for the Government-funded UK Climate Resilience Programme, sets out supposedly ‘plausible futures’ as a result of global warming.

One of those scenarios described by the authors is a surge in ‘Right-wing populism’, resulting in the collapse of ‘political and governance systems.’

After that, ‘a tipping point is reached when the police and justice system (as known in the past) cease to exist.’

Due to ‘past investments in military and defense… without an effective central government, different military groups (militias, criminal groups, etc) rise to de facto power.’

Under a different scenario in the report, a ‘rich elite’ imposes conscription. ‘Society is more divided than ever,’ the report suggests, ‘with the majority of the population having low incomes and poor health, contrasting with a rich ruling elite. Social unrest increases and the prison population skyrockets. To keep the general population in line, governments introduce military conscription by the end of the century.’

The report makes another ‘woke’ political point by claiming that climate change would lead to the privatization of the NHS.

    JANUARY 17, 2022
UK government: 4°C warming by 2100 “can’t be ruled out”

Professor Richard Betts MBE*, who led this team, says that “one of the key conclusions from the University of Exeter’s work was that current worldwide policies could result in up to 4°C warming by 2100.”

“The agreements made at the COP26 climate summit in November have reduced the likelihood of this, but it remains possible.”
    . . .
Professor Betts, of the University of Exeter and the Met Office, welcomed the publication of the CCRA3.

“We are glad to see our science included in this key report, which does not shy away from the high levels of warming that could occur,” he added.

The weather is managed by politicians now, or so they want people to believe.

Haven’t they seen, it’s the socialist LEFT that have caused the collapse of ‘political and governance systems’, most visibly in the EU and USA, by ignoring/redefining the law as it suits them..

The politicisation of climate science is demonstrated here in this Defra document from 2006/7
    https://randd.defra.gov.uk/Document.aspx?Document=GA01012_6499_FRP.doc

“The Climate Prediction Programme was not an academic research programme; its work plan and deliverables was driven by Defra’s requirements for science to inform UK government policy on climate change mitigation and adaptation. As the policy requirements changed, so did the research programme objectives.

The Met Office will focus on research that contributes to UK government policy objectives and will communicate the results to government and the public. This will be done through leadership of the UK climate community, collaboration with UK and world-wide institutions and internal customer-focussed links within the Met Office.”

In January 2005, Betts was a co-author of a Hadley document called “Stabilising climate to avoid dangerous climate change — a summary of relevant research at the Hadley Centre”

These are some points from their summary:
“What constitutes ‘dangerous’ climate change, in the context of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, remains open to debate

Once we decide what degree of (for example) temperature rise the world can tolerate, we then have to estimate what greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere should be limited to, and how quickly they should be allowed to change. These are very uncertain because we do not know exactly how the climate system responds to greenhouse gases.

The next stage is to calculate what emissions of greenhouse gases would be allowable, in order to keep below the limit of greenhouse gas concentrations. This is even more uncertain, thanks to our imperfect understanding of the carbon cycle (and chemical cycles) and how this feeds back into the climate system.”

They have been claiming “the science is settled” since Hansen’s “global warming is here” presentation to Congress in 1988.

Those knuckleheads would do well to go back in time when James II got frustrated with the Quakers in Pennsylvania. They lived just fine without a traditional, formal government, and refused, every one, to go along with the Crown’s demands. Finest piece of peaceful anarchism I’ve read about in recent times. (Rothbard, Conceived in Liberty)

I am having difficulty finding ANY news from any source now that doesn’t feature mostly scaremongering. All this prognostication about the future can wend its way to the bogs. Just live debt-free and pay cash. Conserve as much as possible. These are time and turmoil tested principles that give the most peace of mind, and stop looking for an institution to fix social problems.

    Since 2020 that’s observed hindsight.
So far the conscription has been political:
puppets on ITstrings weather left AND right buy meansov. dove hide’n’concur

Elite stir left and right to react ever more insanely to one another so elite can balance fashion with a good private laugh at “dumb masses” weather left & right.

I can play at that game too. Earth’s surface catching fire by 2120 can’t be ruled out as global warming stimulates massive series of volcanic events leading to a ‘Deccan Traps’ situation in Yellowstone Park super volcano caldera.

    see, it’s easy. Your turn.

How climate change alarmism has turned into pure fantasy

Rob Lyons is a UK journalist specialising in science, environmental and health issues. He is the author of ‘Panic on a Plate: How Society Developed an Eating Disorder’.

Underpinning these scenarios is the view that smart people – like academic researchers – should be running society and this whole democracy business is downright dangerous. How dare people complain about high energy bills or want to drive, fly and eat meat? Society should be run by technocrats (hence the love for the EU) who will make life harder for us all for our own good.

In that sense, this scenario-generating exercise is extremely useful. Whenever we see scare stories about the future – like the UK government’s latest climate-change assessment, published this week – we should remember these scenarios, remind ourselves what kind of people are doing this state-sponsored speculation, and be very, very sceptical about their claims.

As a scientist, and once I was, I would have to leave this awful organisation and do a real job. This is just simply disgusting

  16. stpaulchuck says:

Leonardo DiClown-io was in the news today declaring the Earth only has 9 years left. It was likely filmed in the lounge of his fuel guzzling super yacht.

These jokers are truly deaf to their own disconnect from reality. Then again not one of them ever reads anything even close to a scientific paper, just NYT and CNN.
