Here’s a brief taste of what’s on offer from the alarm-loving media today as they wallow in the latest dire prophecies.

Climate change: IPCC report warns of ‘irreversible’ impacts of global warming, cries BBC News.

Many of the impacts of global warming are now simply “irreversible” according to the UN’s latest assessment.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that humans and nature are being pushed beyond their abilities to adapt.

Over 40% of the world’s population are “highly vulnerable” to climate, the sombre study finds.

Climate change: Scientists warn food and water supplies around the world could collapse unless action is taken, reports i-news.

The world has only a “brief and rapidly closing window” to prevent irreversible climate impacts that threaten to destroy ecosystems and plunge society into chaos.

UN report to lay bare harrowing scale of climate impacts, says

The devastating scale of climate change impacts will be unveiled Monday in a landmark UN report expected to show that warming already threatens billions of people and crucial ecosystems.

Extreme weather, ecosystem collapse, mosquito-borne disease, water shortages and reduced crop yields are already measurably worse due to rising temperatures.

Just in the last year, the world has seen a cascade of unprecedented floods, heatwaves and wildfires across four continents.
. . .
IPCC: Climate change taking lives and livelihoods now and driving disease and crop failure, says UN report – but there is still a window to act says Sky News.

At least 3.3 billion people are already highly vulnerable, half of animals have already shifted towards the poles and, while it’s not too late to act, the window to limit the damage is narrowing, the latest United Nations (UN) climate report warns.

That’s quite enough of all that, thank you.

Many ski areas are having a good season…

Japanese ski area closes chairlift because it snowed too much with over 700 inches for the season so far

Myoko Snowsports didn’t specify which ski area or which chairlift it was exactly that got this much snow, but the post’s caption claims that this chairlift won’t be able to run for the rest of this season.

If they’re irreversible there’s no point I trying to stop them. Party time!

  3. stpaulchuck says:

so a greener planet and higher food production are here forever? Kool!

  4. oldbrew says:

If the climate does go into reverse they’re finished.

  5. Phoenix44 says:

It’s just bizarre fantasies. People torturing data without looking out the window at reality. This morning in London for example it could be any year going back 100 years. Its cool and wet. Today is forecast to have a high a bit below average and a low a bit above average. But both well within natural variability. Same with just about everywhere – if not actually everywhere.

The Ukraine situation and the rising cost of living are far ahead of climate waffle in getting people’s attention at the moment.

  7. Russell Cook (@QuestionAGW) says:

In the U.S. the public-funded PBS NewsHour covered the report this way: “UN releases dire climate report highlighting rapid environmental degradation”

One of the speakers in that piece was Camille Parmesan, who at one time was noted in an early 2015 Plymouth University bio paragraph (when it was was available for public view) as ” …Professor Camille Parmesan, the newly-appointed National Marine Aquarium Chair …” However, as seen in this screencapture from months earlier in 2014×755.jpg that same paragraph labeled her as ” …Professor Camille Parmesan, a Nobel prize-winning scientist and the the newly-appointed National Marine Aquarium Chair …”

There is a reason why that label disappeared. At the suggestion of Donna Laframboise’s old “Fake Nobel Laureates Hall of Shame” page I took the time to write directly to Plymouth U. and Dr Parmesan to say that the IPCC did not allow its scientists to individually label themselves as Nobel Prize laureates.
