The government decides in favour of UK energy over uncertain imported energy for once. Dismay for climate obsessives.

Development of a major North Sea gas field has been approved by regulators, reports BBC News.

The Jackdaw field, east of Aberdeen, has the potential to produce 6.5% of Britain’s gas output.

The regulatory approval comes as the UK government seeks to boost domestic energy output following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Shell’s proposals were initially rejected on environmental grounds in October.

UK Business Minister Kwasi Kwarteng welcomed the decision.

“We’re turbocharging renewables and nuclear, but we are also realistic about our energy needs now,” he said on Twitter.

“Let’s source more of the gas we need from British waters to protect energy security.”

Under the new plan, Shell plans to start production from the field in the second half of 2025.

Wind energy barely registering so far this morning. Exports high.

Britain can no longer afford the decadence of restricting gas production.

This is a very good sign. Russia triggered the inevitable, before more damage is done by government.

  4. Philip Mulholland says:

Really nice to see that the Jackdaw Field Development is going to come to market.
Drilling this UHPHT play is a technical challenge and a true measure of the engineering sophistication of the reliable energy sector.

So when is Cuadrilla going to get the go-ahead to start fracking, which Francis Egan says can be putting gas into the grid in three months?

  6. stpaulchuck says:

fracking is a victim of its own success IMHO. It started kicking coal and oil off the market for many things like heating and cooking and electricity generation. When the US started exporting gas and oil it really lit a fire and the others like OPEC, Big Coal, and others all started attacking. Notice that most other nations outside Europe and the US did NOT screw over their energy producers nor did they radically cut production.

Knee-jerk reaction from the usual suspects…

Paint thrown at UK government building in gas field protest

Red paint has been thrown over UK government offices in Edinburgh by climate activists protesting against the Jackdaw gas field.

Campaign group Just Stop Oil daubed “blood on your hands” on the front of Queen Elizabeth House.

Police arrived after the paint was thrown and spoke to a group of protesters who sat down in front of the building and refused to leave.

‘Just Stop Oil’ = just stop modern life.

I assume the Just Stop Oil loonies never use any oil products? No? Thought not, morons.

In the end, only what really works can win.The problem is politicians and government would rather do everything else that sounds nice to their ignorant elves, and/or can be profited from by legalised fraud, before allowing what works best for the consumer without all the subsidies to be used.
