How governments and the cult of net zero wrecked the energy market – Telegraph

The headline says it all. Despite claiming ‘The original error was not with the science of climate change’ – well, we disagree there – the article charts the real course of the current energy fiasco quite well. Climate obsession has a lot to answer for.

Putin may be the proximate cause of this crisis, but the reason we were vulnerable was an intentional policy to crush fossil fuel investment, says The Telegraph.
. . .
And now? Well, now, as “big oil” might say: “We just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face.”

Europe needs gas. It is pleading for gas.

Instead of flying media to gas fields to court capital, the oil and gas men are being flown to the capitals of Europe and begged to invest.

Despite the incredible prices, they hesitate.

The meeting goes like this: “We need you!” say the politicians. The producers scratch their heads as they mull $20 billion, 20-year investments, and wonder whether, when the war is over and the green bandwagon rolls back into town, the politicians will still sound so sweet on them.

“Your green targets still say we need to shut down by 2030,” they point out. To which Europe says: “Well, of course. Fossil fuels are evil!”

The upshot is that the market is broken and it is governments and do-gooders who broke it. They broke it wantonly, recklessly, touting their saintly intentions, and now we are all reaping the consequences.

The only way to resurrect it is with more government intervention.

Yes indeed. Reality meets wishful thinking.
Which will win? What odds are the bookmakers giving on the EU bureaucrats surviving until this time next year? Especially when local politicians see that it it is a choice between them and themselves?

Somehow the Telegraph article manages not to mention electricity at all.

Almost half the UK don’t think the country will ever be ready for EVs

    Too expensive etc…

  4. Gamecock says:

Wind/solar generation can exist ONLY because they are never invoiced for their backup. They are out kicking their coverage. They can never pass the point where they get free backup.

Same deal with EVs. EVs can exist ONLY because of the vast extent of ICE vehicles. “EVs only” grossly misunderstands personal transportation.

Or they are intentionally trying to destroy it. Both. Power and personal transportation.

There is no punishment for incompetent politicians so they just keep doubling down until disaster strikes. then they resign and go on holiday with their WEF friends

  6. Phoenix44 says:

It’s only a few months ago virtue-signalling students were trying to force universities and colleges to disinvest and Carney was touring the globe on a cloud of self-importance forcing disinvestment. And of course none of the genius who can forecast demand and prices out 70 years foresaw the (pre Ukraine) gas price spike even though it was only a few months in the future. These are the experts we must bow our heads to.

  7. Ned Nikolov, Ph.D. says:

This energy fiasco put on full display the collective human stupidity represented by scientifically illiterate politicians and confused, grant-chasing scientists. How else can we characterise the wrecking of the energy sector and the entire economy of Europe based on a ridiculous 19th-Century climate concept (the “Greenhouse” theory). This half-baked “theory” is behind the silly idea that invisible trace gases control Earth’s climate. Believing such nonsense, which is only supported by manipulated data and flawed computer models, is on par with the medieval claim that witches were cooking the weather.

Watch this video to learn how flawed the current climate theory is:

They aren’t the villains. The press is. Politicians and scientists respond to reinforcement from the PRESS. Politicians are controlled by the press. Scientists respond to the people with the money.

UK’s two biggest problems are BBC and Guardian. One of the press’s key functions in a democracy is that of watchdog. BBC&G have picked sides, then controlled the debate – prevented debate. They aren’t watchdogs; they are advocates.

You will get no viable solutions without the support of BBC&G. They will report the UK dying, telling you it’s the best thing for “The Planet.” Brits will starve believing they are “saving the planet.”

Global Financial System at Risk From Flawed Climate Models
    Thursday 25th August 2022

A team of Australian scientists, financiers and economists have issued a stark warning over the use of “flawed” climate models to predict financial risk.
    . . .
They point out that according to their analysis, and those of others, indicates that the translation of global mean temperature datasets into estimates of extremes is a process so bad that confidence cannot be had in either the magnitude of predicted change, or even in the sign of those changes. This is an excellent presentation by Jo Nova (from Australia) demonstrating with actual data, how pushing of “renewables” (wind- and solar power) by Governments over the past 10-15 years wrecked the energy sector and increased energy prices in Australia and Europe:
