More evidence that petulant climate obsessives are a drag on society and the UK economy.

The UK government is being urged to sack one of its trade advisers after he joined a thinktank that has denied the scale of the climate crisis and campaigned against net zero, says The Guardian.

Tony Abbott, a former Australian prime minister, announced this week that he had joined the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF).

Abbott has been a member of the UK government’s Board of Trade since 2020, advising on post-Brexit deals, with Australia now a key trading partner since the UK left the EU.

But sources at the Department for Business and Trade said Abbott would not be dismissed, despite an outcry from parliamentarians and climate campaigners.

The GWPF has produced reviews – at odds with mainstream science – that claim the climate emergency is not happening. Members of the thinktank have shared work suggesting that a rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could be a good thing.

Presenting a report last year, the GWPF’s director, Dr Benny Peiser, said: “It’s extraordinary that anyone should think there is a climate crisis.”

Recently, the thinktank started Net Zero Watch, a campaigning platform highlighting what it calls the “costs of net zero”.

GWPF is being looked into by the Charity Commission after claims from MPs and lawyers that it does not meet its aims as a charity and is a lobbying organisation.

” the climate crisis…” I dare them to point to this ‘crisis’. Of course it is always 50 or 100 years off in the future (and total rubbish).

One only has to look at the traces of the models and their temperature predictions plotted against the actual temps to see what a load of nonsense they are.

So just the same as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth then.

Yes, and they receive a lot more money so they could be taxed. Might change the amount donated if it cannot be called ‘charitable’.

‘We need more genuine science’: Tony Abbott joins climate sceptic think tank
    Feb 7

Former prime minister Tony Abbott has been welcomed into a leading climate sceptic think tank while calling for more “genuine science” and less “groupthink”.

The Global Warming Policy Foundation announced Mr Abbott would join its board of trustees and assist its objectives to “foster a culture of debate, respect and scrutiny”.

The UK-based foundation, which has been labelled a “climate denying group” by Australia’s Climate Council organisation, was founded in 2009 by former UK chancellor Nigel Lawson.

In a statement, Mr Abbott said he was pleased to be joining GWPF because it “consistently injected a note of realism into the climate debate”.

“All of us want to save the only planet we have but this should not be by means which impoverish poorer people in richer countries and hold poorer countries back,” he said.

“Right now, in countries like Australia, the impact of climate policy is to make electricity less affordable and less reliable rather than perceptibly to cool the planet.

“We need more genuine science and less groupthink in this debate — that’s where the GWPF has been a commendably consistent if lonely voice.”
