It follows that converting all powered transport to electricity is doomed.
By Larry Bell ~
During his State of the Union Address, President Biden blamed high U.S. energy prices on greedy oil companies despite as former presidential candidate Biden having virtually pledged to put them out of business.
During a Democratic primary debate with Sen. Bernie Sanders, Biden said, “No more subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. No more drilling on federal lands. No more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill — period, [it] ends, number one,” later adding, “No more, no new fracking.”
Joe has largely kept his promise, evidenced by an aggressive war against fossil energy which has included banning of the Keystone XL pipeline along with myriad other executive orders placing regulatory restrictions on drilling.
It is perhaps forgivable then, that Republican attendees loudly groaned at his ironic SOTU temerity when Biden said, “When I talked to a couple of…

Below: how some wishful thinkers imagine it. Even this unlikely renewables expansion has coal+gas+oil/biofuels (aka the CO2 emitters) a long way ahead in 2050, with total usage of all types together almost twice that of 2005.
Lots one can ALWAYS say in this stupid monologo-polistic debate. Geo thermal, Biomass ‘and other’ REQUIRE electric power to function. so next time you can’t charge you EV or wash your underwear, think is it because someone is firing up their biomass …. etc . talk about hanging up the dirty washing when the wind blows. Dare say the Herons won’t come near then.
The local newspaper had a letter last week about WE should switch to CHEAP, non polluting (with oxygen) hydrogen from supplies from outer space.
I am beginning to think that an unknown pathogen is slowly eating people’s minds.
Seems few are aware that pure hydrogen combustion due to increased temperature in fact produces more NOx than burning most fossil fuels…
catweazle:
He seems to have got that far in that he refers to using pure oxygen in the combustion of hydrogen. Where he plans to get the supply isn’t obvious.
I assume that he wants to mine the outer planets otherwise he will face angry Greenies waving signs “Hands off our Sun”.
He claims to speak for Raincore Hydrogen – have you ever heard of them?
A quick search reveals a gang called Rancor who appear to be some form of high-tech subsidy farmers.

Actually Graeme No.3 the reason is that the schools stopped teaching kids to think in the early 60’s and it has all gone downhill since then. The universities are worse because they indoctrinate the students to follow ‘the way’ and just regurgitate what they are given without understanding. I saw that when I was asked to solve an engineering problem with a large aluminium casting – the client wanted a slightly smaller unit and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. the ‘design engineer’ just pulled up the CAD drawings and told the program to reduce them by 20%, they made the casting but when the machining was finished there was no way they could mount the necessary 7 100mm dia electric motors – there was no metal to hold them. The ‘design engineer’ couldn’t work out what went wrong or how to fix it. I made a good sum from resolving the problem which was caused by lack of teaching.
It has got worse over the years and I am thankful I am retired now.

Thanks, but I assume he is just a local nutter (as in NutZero).

Imagine a new graduate engineer who hadn’t heard of a Carnot heat Engine. A basic part of thermodynamics.
Net zero targets give more heat than light
The Government’s targets for heat pump installations and the electric vehicle switchover are not realistic

…when it comes to net zero, practical policies appear to have been abandoned.

Nobody is buying heat pumps because they’re an awful product
Is anyone surprised that the heat pump rollout is failing? They cost a ton and aren’t particularly efficient

According to the House of Lords, and the Government as well it appears, we are not all rushing out to replace our trusty gas heating with a green, net zero heat pump is because of “mixed messaging” and poor marketing. But hold on. Isn’t there another, simpler, explanation? Perhaps the product is horrendously expensive, and doesn’t work very well.
. . .
Heat pumps are not selling because they are a bad product – and “mixed messaging” is just an excuse to avoid that inconvenient truth.
