Check what you own or use that came from a petroleum base, and…mind the impending reality gap.

The zero-emission movement in the wealthy countries are experiencing a “dangerous delusion” of a global transition to “just electricity” that eliminates the use of the three fossil fuels of crude oil, natural gas, and coal, that made society achieve so much in a few centuries. As old refineries accelerate their closure rates in the coming years, new Asia refineries are coming to the rescue! Does Asia’s rescue represent the good news or the bad news?

The future does not bode well as 20 percent of the 700 worldwide aging refineries are projected to close in the next 5 years that will result in less manufacturing with the loss of 140 sites to meet the ever growing demands of ships, jets, and the derivatives needed for all the products demanded by society. With less manufacturing in wealthy countries in the days ahead, further shortages and…

“three fossil fuels of crude oil, natural gas, and coal, that made society”

Though on occasion remnants of past industrial civilizations have been found in coal, there still is no evidence of fossils to be found in any of these.

A mark of civilization must be its use of misnomers.

Misnomers? you mean like Carbon, greenhouse gas(es), Male, female, Binaries ( Zeros and 1’sies ) etc
But seriously, the world has its belly full and is drunk with its own importance..

Somehow the total available energy needs to keep pace with demand, or demand has to drop by some means or other. Renewables can splutter along, but if reliable *on demand* energy sources are allowed to fall short it’s pain all round.

Maybe the simple answer is to build more coal fired power plants to tide the countries over while small nuclear plants are fully developed.

Closed cycle gas turbine plant is cheaper, takes up less space and can be essentially built from off-the-shelf components, Ivan.
So we really need to get fracking as well!
