Like many other countries, they’ve always been playing in the pie-in-the-sky league on climate policy, built on vague untestable conjectures and unreliable climate models.

Key climate schemes trumpeted as part of the government’s net zero strategy are likely to fail, ministers were told before last week’s “green day” announcements, says The Times (via No2NuclearPower).
A leaked document by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) reveals that officials told ministers they were not confident that key policies announced on Thursday — including tree planting, peat restoration and recycling targets — were realistic.
The ten-page advisory document — marked “not public facing” — was produced on February 20 for Grant Shapps, the energy security and net zero secretary.
It assessed the “delivery risk” and “delivery confidence” of each of the net zero measures proposed by Defra, which is run by Thérèse Coffey, the environment secretary. Each was assessed with a traffic-light scale of green, amber and red.
Of 44 policies, 21 were marked red or red/amber, indicating they will be hard to achieve.
These policies encompass about 85 per cent of Defra’s proposed emissions savings, indicating officials expect to fall well short of what they claim.
A further 18 policies were marked as amber or amber/green, and only five were marked green, two of which disappeared from the final “carbon budget delivery plan” document published on Thursday.
Defra has long been warned it has not pulled its weight when it comes to cutting carbon.

Mr Manwaring ( mannering) – Take Cover! Don’t panic! Don’t panic! Don’t panic! the Balls are falling, Not only but also this scheme, but also the other ponzi schemes. Ha ha you gotta larf: Scotland in twatland now – Sturgeon family in turmoil, Umm, za ‘ts a good un – visited Aberdeen yesterday Capital something of the world, but today that’s fallen already – ‘Hundreds’ of jobs lost due to windfall task. ( actually earlier reported to be 350 ).
And Winter’s not over yet ? More giant Hail balls to fall. Could be an interesting year.

Shocker…
Another utter waste of taxpayers’ money.
If they’d asked me I could have told them Nut Zero didn’t have a cat in hell’s chance for nowt.
As could plenty of other posters on here, of course!
I mean seriously…if you can’t even hit a tree planting target?

“I mean seriously…if you can’t even hit a tree planting target?”
But we certainly burn plenty!
Annual subsidies for Drax power station in North Yorkshire, a former coal-fired power station which now runs on “biomass” made up of imported waste wood, reached £832m in 2020, while the budget for tree planting and peatland works out at just £130m a year.
Drax was recently named the UK’s biggest single source of CO2 emissions. It releases over 13 million tonnes of CO2 a year, using around 7 million tonnes of wood pellets, the equivalent of about 25 million trees, scientists have said.

The “waste wood” bit is a flat out lie, of course.
Did any of those producing the report realise that it is the carbon dioxide that makes plants grow and food plentiful? I suspect not but they are following the UN Church of Climatology diktat that we must follow all things green, even if they are stupid and unnecessary.
It is about time the tax payers applied Cromwell’s speech to all things to do with the government and dump the lot of them by the roadside with brooms to sweep them clean.
Aye, just sooo much rubbish about a rubbish subject in the first place, all this tree burning ..MILLIONS of tons.. Jocity Blogg has NO IDEA of what that even looks like, and I don’t even know how many ACRES of land supplied that, let alone how long to regrow the stuff. and HOW much DIESEL was burnt to cut down and process the pellets. I find one uses more diesel processing the chips than burning the logs straight.
