A climate-obsessed government wasting money on a ‘wretched’ subsidised scheme while chasing self-imposed targets – heard it before?

The government offered vouchers to help people pay to replace boilers with heat pumps but critics say most people can’t afford them “subsidised or not”, reports Sky News.

“It does not help people keep bills low. It takes from the poor to give to the wealthy and it is an embarrassment of a policy.”

The figures have cast doubt on the government’s target of 600,000 installations of heat pumps per year by 2028.

Through the scheme, households are given £5,000 vouchers to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems – including oil, gas or electric – with a heat pump or biomass boiler.

Ministers have previously said this will cut emissions and reduce the UK’s dependency on fossil fuels, mitigating some of its exposure to global price spikes in gas.

people can’t afford them “subsidised or not”

and that’s all that’s to it. Talk about 35% pay rise requests, nay, DEMANDS by som e equates approx to basic tax rate. which is less than the Energy Price Hike

The elephant in the room is ‘where is all the high priced electricity to run these things?’ At the moment wind is supplying only 12% of the electricity needed to keep the country going the rest is from nuclear, CCGT and what other countries have to spare.

The other thing is when it gets very cold outside the heat pump can’t adequately heat the house so a normal boiler is needed to keep warm. Also if the existing heating pipe work is too small (most small bore systems are much too small to work with a heat pump) extra cost must be included to either replace the pipe work or install duct work.

In other words there are cheaper and more efficient ways of keeping the house warm in winter.

We can scoff but the next step isn’t the government retreating, its the government moving from carrot to stick. You had your chance to do it voluntarily naughty children, now I’m going to force you to do it.

‘Force you to do it’ Phoenix44 ? Hmm, there’s a lot of IVORY ( not) Pylons that could be toppled. … just saying

If the top of the unit pictured was covered with solar panels and there was a wind generator attached to the side, it would be self-sustaining. The house could be disconnected from the electrical company, but most would opt to stay connected so they could sell surplus electricity back to the grid.
