No prizes for guessing why those networks are hard-pressed: step forward ‘net zero’ climate obsession. Lack of reliable electricity supply didn’t happen overnight.

National Grid is quitting its foray into developing carbon capture and storage in the UK, in a blow to the Government’s net zero ambitions, says the Daily Telegraph.
The FTSE 100 company is abandoning its plans to develop new pipelines in the Humber region to take carbon dioxide emissions out to the North Sea.
Its National Grid Ventures arm is in talks to sell the onshore pipeline project to partners, and has already quit another phase of the project.
Carbon capture and storage is considered key to the Government’s plans to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, but is not yet up and running at scale in the UK.
Power plants in the Humber region hoping to start capturing their emissions missed out on a fresh round of government support announced at the end of last month.
National Grid said it wants to focus instead on its electricity networks, which are in major need of upgrades to help cope with the rise in wind farms, electric cars and heat pumps.
A spokesman said it was “committed to managing a smooth transition” as it moved to transfer its carbon capture interests to partners.
. . .
BP is now expected to become the system operator from end to end.

Just been submitting my Elec reading, and on feedback told them ‘Please be honest – you are NOT, you are “Climate scammers” ‘
Back on Topic, Huh, I read about this last night – Didn’t hear neighbour’s TV / Radio bellowing out that someone was wailing about stopping the stupid procedure, this morning. Maybe the N.G.’s Meter was overheating or the coins weren’t being minted fast enough ( Hoh! – too hot to handle, eh? ) ( Hoooch – wind producing an awful lot-28%, o’ no much at all, only 8GW). Aye this awfully Late cold spell – a sign of global warming – where’s this cold coming from if there’s no Ice inthe Arctic? Stratospheric warming et al. Since when did warm produce cold – only when it MOVES cold air from somewhere, surely. Surely even a simpleton can grasp that? Gramps tell us there was SNOW at beginning of MAY at the end of that year’s Spring SOWING time – the late 60’s/early 70’s andthat was a sign of COOLING. – I think.
and ( O/T) on the other hand, bbc weather and others were going for awful cold since end of last week – what did we, what did YOU get? some snow only THIS morning high up on the hills, but windscreen frosts quite often in back of Sun at 6am – the coldest partof the night. … Nothing new there Tatties been frosted after emergence in mid-May. +4C here this morning -been colder and NO Aurora to be seen last night – only the Newish Moon aligning with a wee star and some very high cloud at 11pm but can already follow the Sun around the horizon ( at last ) .
Saighdear – auroras were even seen in Berlin…

UK was importing 16% of its electricity in the last hour (or longer). Meanwhile our own land-based coal and gas is ignored and the old power stations get closed but not replaced.
Hmm, Yes Oldbrew, those fotos from Berlin are similar to the usual we see up here: maybe we are too cloose to Summer – skies not so dark up here any more: suspected sometrickery on what ‘d seen at lunchtime news – purple filters maybe! ( Oh the wrath …. )

Na h-Eileanan an Iar: ‘With around 21,000 registered voters, it has the smallest electorate of any constituency in the United Kingdom.’
another NetZero disaster coming down the line. When this all meets at the junction of reality it’s going to be a huge mess.
Old Brew:
Energy Security and Net Zero??? Any mention of Pink Elephants or (any colour) Unicorns?
Reblogged this on Utopia, you are standing in it!.
Thankfully all the money NG is going to have to spend on upgrading its network is not going to have to be repaid by consumers….
LionLink: ‘World’s largest cross-border power line’ to be built by UK and Netherlands
The project will connect the two countries to each other and to offshore wind farms in the North Sea and is scheduled to go into operation “by the early 2030s”.
Monday 24 April 2023 17:12, UK
The project is being developed by Britain’s National Grid and Dutch electricity network operator TenneT.
The line will be able to move enough surplus energy between the countries to power Birmingham and Manchester combined, according to ministers.

Surplus to what? If nobody needs it, it’s surplus 🙄
In capturing our one percent from the atmosphere in order to be able to claim Net Zero, how much Chinese CO2 do we have to capture? Thirty one times.
