According to the UN, it’s the climate – meaning they want to imply human intervention in it. Of course that’s what they always say, whenever some factoid suitable for cherrypicking turns up. Nothing they say sheds any light on the real factors behind the latest weather. Count the coulds, mights and maybes here as experts caution against over-interpreting machine data.

The average temperature of the Earth might have hit record highs this week, according to an unofficial analysis, says DW.com.
The news comes as several regions experience intense heat waves. [Talkshop comment – welcome to NH summer].
Earth’s average temperature again reached a record level on Thursday, according to satellite data and computer simulations processed at a US university.
The Climate Reanalyzer at the University of Maine recorded a planetary average of 17.23 degrees Celsius (63 degrees Fahrenheit), beating the record 17.18 C mark reached on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The news comes as the EU’s climate monitoring service said Thursday that the Earth had experienced its hottest June on record last month.
The EU monitor Copernicus also said preliminary data showed Tuesday was the hottest day ever recorded.
What scientists say about the climate data
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warned that the Maine analysis should be treated with caution and that it could not validate the data.
At the same time, however, it said it recognized “that we are in a warm period due to climate change.”
It said that “combined with El Nino and hot summer conditions, we’re seeing record warm surface temperatures being recorded at many locations across the globe.”
Although the records are unofficial, many climate scientists regard the findings as very worrying, while UN chief Antonio Guterres has said the new statistics could go to prove that climate change is “out of control.”

Hadn’t thought of that angle, Oldbrew, the climate, or climate alarmism, ‘out of control’ Too many people with no job or other worthwhile prospects in modern life: Seem to remember how in school in English classes ( yes we have them in Scotland too) and was it under Drama, or what, but writing essays on how to do various things: Organise a protest about xyz, etc. being one of the topics.
Trees ‘n birds & Katzendugs: But how many studied Botany or Zoology at school to even know or understand the Basics? … I mean when folk swoon over Carbon ( A black (metal) ) and not CO2 – a trace gas product of combustion. … what did they ever learn somewhere? and now on the farming program: they are so far behind , at least Scotland, says Gramps, … about types o buildings for housing livestock in Summer ( to keep cool) or in winter. … all because of Climate change – I HATE THAT PHRASE. And then they progress on to Crisper Genetic engineering …. to do with that hated phrase.
How do they manage to get a hundredth of a degree accuracy over a very wide area of coverage? Experience says that a degree accuracy would be nearer the mark but I suppose they have to produce contrived scary numbers to keep the UN Church of Climatology happy.
I will admit it got so hot here that I have a small table fan running to cool the house down.

The Media’s Relentless Hype Over Bad Weather Has One Goal: Fear
Climate reporting in the elite media has become a series of endless, breathlessly reported firsts and 1-in-1,000-year events.

…the extreme weather statistics have a different purpose: to frighten.
They’re meant to make readers believe that a climate apocalypse is upon us and that only by giving up gas stoves – not private planes, never private planes, only gas stoves – can we survive.
