Climate scientists are now expected to become ‘forceful advocates for practical solutions’, says one commenter on the appointment. As usual, no mention of natural climate variation in media alarmist circles.

British professor Jim Skea was elected to lead the UN’s climate expert panel Wednesday, taking the helm of the organization charged with distilling the best science to inform global policy in a critical decade for humans and the planet, reports Phys.org.
Skea, a Professor of Sustainable Energy at Imperial College London who co-chaired the report on curbing planet-heating emissions in the latest round of assessments, was elected chair at a meeting of the 195-nation organization in Nairobi.
“Climate change is an existential threat to our planet,” he told delegates.
With impacts already sweeping the planet—from devastating floods to blistering heatwaves [Talkshop comment – the usual scaremongering] — the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) plays a key role in the growing scientific knowledge on climate change.
Skea, 69, takes on the role as the world is already a third of the way through a crucial decade for climate action, which will set the course of warming and impacts that will ripple out for decades or even centuries.
He will oversee hundreds of experts—who work on a voluntary basis—and be charged with ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution.
Last year, the IPCC’s key final report—synthesizing a host of major assessments since 2018—was postponed for “operational reasons”, meaning it was not ready before crucial UN climate negotiations in November.
That document, dubbed a “survival guide” for the world, was finally released in March this year.
It said the world will cross the key Paris Agreement goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius warming since pre-industrial times in the early 2030s and urged dramatic reductions in planet-heating emissions.
‘Forceful advocates’
Skea, who has nearly forty years of climate science experience, outlined the main priorities for his tenure as improving inclusiveness and diversity, protecting the IPCC’s integrity and policy relevance and making sure it has the best available science to work with.
. . .
“The role of scientists in this global crisis now surpasses the conventional confines of research and analysis,” said Tasneem Essop, of campaign group Climate Action Network International.
“They are being called upon to serve as forceful advocates for practical solutions, actively championing measures based on equity and justice that will effectively tackle the escalating climate change crisis.”

Nobel prize winner John Clauser (2022): ‘In my opinion, the IPCC is one of the worst sources of dangerous climate misinformation’ [from 3m. 40s. in this video].
The science is settled, the focus is now on implementation of practical solutions.
Professor Skea is clearly the right man for this job.
Not sure scientists are qualified to produce practical solutions to anything. In this instance engineers are required which will result in realistic cost/benefit analysis and the infusion of rationality.
How much further can Imperial College fall? It was once an excellent part of London university, now it heads to oblivion and should be disbanded because of the stupidity displayed.
In a recent interview with Spain’s Climatica, Skea underscored that humans still have power over the future trajectory of warming.
“The challenges are huge, but the key thing is to not become paralyzed into inaction by a sense of despair,” he said. [bold added]

Of course he doesn’t *know* that, because nobody knows, and there’s plenty of evidence against CO2 as a primary factor in climate, and plenty for other things like cloud cover changes. It’s all assertion and bluster.
Did he wonder on what grounds mankind should be panicking and looking for saviours from the boiling of the Earth when we are in the Quaternary Ice Age and that the Earth is well below its average temperature?
Do the numpty public really think a man is talking sense when he tells us we can and should keep the planet in the Ice Age against the natural forces of the solar system – and ultimately the Universe – by reducing our 4% contribution to The Gas of Life when all other animal life – like termites as a humble example – are thriving and emitting far greater increases than man can dream of no matter how much fossil fuel he uses.
Cynical Rulers have always overcome reasoned and just challenge by playing the “Saviour” card – all State religion is really politics to take in the gullible – and here we are.
Whilst we are scientifically advanced we remain politically primitive, still being ruled by the game of “Shepherds and Flocks”.
Even as we find the last wolf wasn’t what it seemed to be, along comes another – according to the Good Shepherds – and we just fall for that instead having never learned. The Cynics do have to up the ante to overcome the noise of those who have seen it all before and incarcerate us all together in another psychological cul-de-sac, whence the inmates will kill anyone trying to get them out.
Accordingly sane progress is damned by the Cynical with the support of the gullible and our educational system has served its masters perfectly by producing populations for whom ignorance is bliss. What an epitaph.
It is Plato’s 2400 year Old Allegory of the Cave, which I recommend all to read or see the videos in order to understand our political primitivism and need for the gullible to supply the overwhelming ranks of white sheep to ostracise the hated black brethren.
Shepherds are there to fleece their sheep and dine out on them and the gullible we have loved them for all their glory since the beginning – how ironic can the polarities of human society be?
Oh my, a new driver for the clown car. Call me when the tumbrels start rolling. I want to get a front row seat for the entertainment when these grifters and azzclowns get what’s owed to them by the rest of us.
CO2 IS PLANT FOOD!
So a scientists elected to lead the science starts off with various wholly unscientific claim – that climate change is an existential threat.
And what are the qualifications of scientists in terms of economics and justice?
Keith, since when did engineers become Economists? And when did they become good at estimating costs? Do I really need to list all the projects over the last few decades costed by engineers that came in vastly over those costs?
the organization charged with distilling the best science
As long as it conforms to IPCC pre-conceived theories that don’t work in climate models?
