The cost deceptions of wind power lobbyists can’t be maintained any longer, as the UK government has closed off their favourite loophole. As this Net Zero Watch press release headlines it: ‘Wind industry confirms Great Green Lie’.
– – –
Campaign group Net Zero Watch says that the wind industry has effectively admitted that it has been deceiving the British public over the cost of the energy “transition”.
RWE Renewables has just told the Government that it needs its subsidy “strike price” to rise by 70% if any more wind farms are to be built.
Net Zero Watch director Andrew Montford said:
Rishi Sunak has said that there has been a long-term deception of the British public. RWE’s demand for more subsidy confirms it. The Green Blob has been lying about renewables costs for years. The truth is that wind power is expensive, and becoming more so. The energy “transition” is a transition to poverty, but few in Westminster seem to have the guts to say so.”

‘Cheap renewables’ nonsense is over.
Rishi Sunak has said that too?
At least half the country doesn’t care – the rich should just pay.

Wind-power Investors abandon Siemens Energy — another shocking 37% fall, and it’s not alone
October 28th, 2023
It’s dire. After suffering a 36% fall in June due to unexpectedly bad maintenance bills, Siemens Energy has lost another 37% on Thursday as it revealed orders and revenue would be even lower than the current subdued expectations. The share that sold for 24 euro in May is now selling for 7.
. . .
And so we arrive at a point where a company selling products that depend on government subsidies is now asking to be subsidized itself. And the whole green industry depended on government pumped “science” and artificially low interest rates to exist in the first place. Like a pyramid scheme skiing on a two ponzi scams, sooner or later it has to collapse.

It’s life support time for Big Wind.
I have never seen the need for subsidies, unless it started because some politicians wanted to pay themselves and friends for trying to appear to be green.
If they can’t make money from the free wind and solar then they shouldn’t be in business. It is not the job of the tax payer to keep their business afloat, maybe they should build and run a couple of reliable CCGT power stations to supply power when the wind isn’t blowing.
The case for wind power was built upon a myth
We keep being told that it will continue to get cheaper. Now the truth has been revealed

True, the cost did fall sharply up until 2019. But this then went into reverse thanks to higher commodity prices and interest rates. With renewable energy, most of the costs come upfront – which makes it particularly reliant on cheap debt.
But this is only half the story. If we are going to have a grid based on intermittent renewables, it is no use looking just at the cost of generation. We have to add on the cost of energy storage, or some other kind of back-up – or else build so many wind and solar farms that we have just enough power at the worst of times, and a super-abundance of it at other times.

No solar ‘farm’ is any use after dark i.e. half the year. Then there’s cloud cover and weak winter sun on top of that.
In cool places like the UK, peak electricity demand is outside the times when peak solar power occurs. None of this should need saying.
Oh my, there’s a shock! I wonder why no one could see this coming. [/sarc (as if you couldn’t tell ha ha)]
