Climate mythology on the back foot. Some people at least are not keen on being frogmarched into costly and disruptive ‘net zero’ energy policies for more pain than gain, while having their reliability of supply reduced and farmers demonised.

The far-right party that surged to victory in Wednesday’s Dutch election wants to ditch all efforts to stop climate change, says Politico.

About a quarter of Dutch voters backed Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV), whose platform includes exiting the Paris climate accord, dismantling domestic green legislation, and scrapping measures to reduce planet-warming emissions.

While right-wing politicians from Scandinavia to Italy have won big over the past year, this is the first time a party openly calling for an end to the green transition has won a national election in the European Union.

To govern, Wilders needs to convince several other parties to join the PVV in a coalition, and even if he succeeds, he may still not end up as prime minister.

But whether in government or as the loudest opposition block, Wilders and the PVV will have significant influence on setting climate policy in the Netherlands — a country that has prided itself on being among Europe’s most ambitious in tackling global warming. [Talkshop comment – ‘ambitious’ as in ‘big spending’?].

Coming just ahead of the EU elections next summer, the PVV’s victory also reflects a wider shift that may spell trouble for Europe’s climate efforts in the coming years.

Far right eh? and “frog marching” — was that not a hitlr thing? so was he not taken to be Soshlust i.e.. LEFT wing ? I could never understand all that left right wing stuff . SO its OK for the rest of euroland and “britland ” to go down this Left wingie Nationalie isty way. .
Immer hin, the Dutch only got 25%, would the brazen lefties coagulate to grab control, much as I understand they did in Germany to exclude the AfD, and as our Scot-Naz partei have done with the Greens … Stilll a big hurdle.

‘this is the first time a party openly calling for an end to the green transition has won a national election in the European Union’

If a government emerges that strongly opposes that line there could be a lot of disgruntled Dutch voters.

  3. Graeme No.3 says:

They will need a coalition to govern and heavy pressure will be used to keep the EU lot in power.
It might be better for Wilders to avoid joining a trap and wait until the whole EU collapses.

  4. Phoenix44 says:

    “A country that prides itself…”

No it doesn’t. It’s an elite that prides itself, preening its virtue on the backs of its citizens. As the vote obviously shows, the country does not want to impoverish itself.

  5. saighdear says:

Yes indeed, “A country that prides itself…” .. IMHO That’s also a/the problem in the UK … even Scotland ( home). but that is a BIG statement with so many Trolls and Bridges.
How to overcome without staying at home ? Well simply it’ll mean going around the long way to cross the rivers & ravines – a very long & slow journey with many detractions. Can one Jump the rivers and gorges. Need to get an audience with King Solomon.

Can´t explain why all the craziness about CO2 when it has absolutely nothing to do with climate. Have anyone of those fools ever seen that big light upon us everyday? Prof.Misha Vukcevic has shown that temperatures follow EM fields:

The Dutch Revolt Against Net Zero And The EU’s ‘Climate Pope’

One of the big losers of this week’s Dutch elections, in which right-winger Geert Wilders romped to victory, was Frans Timmermans, leader of a newly formed alliance of the Labour and Green parties.
    . . .
It seems the European mainstream media are finally taking note of the disastrous consequences of Timmermans’s Net Zero zealotry.

Last week, Politico warned that his EU climate policies could be about to set off a wave of deindustrialization on a scale we haven’t seen in 50 years.

The report asked the question: ‘Does the architect of Europe’s Green Deal truly understand what he’s unleashed?’ The answer can only be a resounding ‘Yes’.

The truth is that Timmermans is simply indifferent to deindustrialization in the EU.

Indeed, as noted in Politico, he ‘has been candid about the cost of his revolution’ and has warned that ‘the journey will be harder on some than on others’.

Back in 2020, Timmermans admitted to the European Parliament that his wild goose chase for Net Zero would be ‘bloody hard’.
