Maybe the vast scale of anti-net zero protests around Europe has given them cold feet, plus the general lack of enthusiasm for such extravagant so-called climate policies among UK voters battling the fast-rising cost of living.

Labour is ditching its policy of spending £28bn a year on its green investment plan, Sky News understands.
The policy will not be dropped altogether, but the party is ditching the financial target to spend £28bn a year on environmental schemes.
Labour will put this down to uncertain public finances and is also likely to say that this is the outcome of finalising ideas for their manifesto for the next general election, expected later this year.
The major U-turn comes after weeks of confusion surrounding the policy.
. . .
The pledge to spend £28bn a year on environmental projects, like offshore wind farms and electric vehicles, was first made in 2021 as part of a promise that Labour would be the greenest government in history were it to win the keys to Number 10.
But it was watered down last year to be a target to work towards, rather than a day-one commitment, with Ms Reeves blaming rising interest rates and the “damage” the Conservatives had done to the economy for the change in direction.
The costly pledge has long been used by the Tories to criticise Labour’s fiscal responsibility, following Rishi Sunak’s decision to scrap a number of the government’s own green pledges.
Full report here.

AFAIK, the Labor Party has ‘realized’ (American ‘spell check’ ‘again’) that, as the ‘opposition’ they don’t have ‘the figures’ for the national expenditure. Thus, ‘the realization’ (American ‘spell check’ ‘again’ [this is getting ‘boring’, I’m typing in ‘English’ and the ‘subject’ is about England! Please deal with this TB, I don’t include ‘American spelling’ within my ‘texts’ and this becomes irksome!]).
Again, the Labor Party is determined/adamant that the declared ‘spend’ is it’s ultimate ‘goal’ within 1-2 ‘Parliaments’. Without the knowledge of the ‘current state’ of the ‘treasury’ any ‘opposition party’ is at a ‘loss’ to put an ‘actual figure’ upon their ‘claim’ to provide ‘funding’ for ‘any’ part of the ‘enqueuer’ (this is a French ‘word’ that ‘didn’t’ ‘trigger’ you’re ‘spell check’ [ slang for ‘enquirer’ in English to my understanding]). I guess the Labor Party has ‘realized’ (American ‘spell check’ again) that an ‘absolute value’ can’t be attributed to a ‘working strategy’ for ‘any political party’ in ‘opposition’.
I fully ‘realise’ (I’ll not alter this ‘spelling’) that our ‘constitution’ needs to be revised, but this should be on ‘our terms’!

You could always reset your grammar to English English instead of Merican English if you had the time ( like wot i don!)
Labour to ditch £28bn green prosperity plan
Being more prosperous is too expensive 🤣
BBC climate cranks go ballistic on the radio…
The BBC’s latest climate coverage makes XR look moderate
Keir Starmer’s abandonment of the pledge to spend £28 billion a year on green projects is a terrible idea which will deprive Britain of the massive wealth which Joe Biden has created with his Inflation Reduction Act. It will fry us and drown us.
I know it must be true because I heard it this morning on the Today programme. There were no fewer than five separate items on it, by my count.

There wasn’t much of a plan anyway. Calling it an investment was a bad joke.
The incredible – needless – tangle that Labour got itself into over its £28bn green investment policy only truly became clear as leader Sir Keir Starmer and shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves were killing it.
