Flooding like this has been recorded for centuries, e.g. on the Danube at Passau, Bavaria. Politicians are doing the usual bandwagon-jumping trick by trying to invoke human causes as the problem.

Floods caused by heavy rain in southern Germany have claimed at least four lives, reports BBC News.
The victims include three people found in flooded basements on Monday. On Sunday a firefighter died while trying to rescue trapped residents.
Thousands of people in the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have fled their homes since torrential rains began on Friday.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who visited affected areas, said the flooding was a reminder of critical environmental challenges.
“We cannot neglect the task of halting man-made climate change,” he said on Monday.

Bavarian Premier Markus Soeder, who was with Mr Scholz on his visit, said: “Events are happening here that have never happened before.” [Talkshop comment – evidence says they have].
About 20,000 people are involved in rescue operations across the state. A state of emergency has been declared.
The German Weather Service warned of more heavy rain in southern and eastern parts of the country.

A repeat of 1862 Great California Flood would now be an incontrovertible proof that we have passed a critical point.

Every new event is an event that did not happen before it happened.
Climate has evolved over the total history of earth, climate got colder over millions of years, extreme warm times alternating with extreme cold times increased and became more extreme over the last million years. The most recent ten thousand years has experienced the climate evolving into the most comfortable, most narrow bounded, self correcting cycles in millions and billions of years.
It looks like the peak should be a bit below the severe 2013 Danube flooding in southern Bavaria. Some flood defences were upgraded after that.
I have been to Passau and seen the wall with the high marks of previous floods. It puts all this present nonsense reporting into perspective. Obviously, history is not a strong subject with German politicians at present. They are either deluded, misinformed or just devious. Choose your pick.
The peak level of the Danube has been slightly lower than in 2013, in some places at least. They expect another few days of these high levels.
Here’s that multi-century flooding wall chart again…
