Estimated Class 4, fails Class 3 on “Ground covered with natural and low vegetation (<25 cm) representative of the region”, in an unstable environment, ploughed and cropped field.
UHI, none.
So what is going on?
A bit of digging suggests there is a bit of a problem with a station which cannot be seen from a normal public place.
First clue came on trying to get a view from a tree infested road (which is not reality). At first I didn’t understand why there seemed to a wall of meadow, steep slope all along. Eventually I found a gap.
Wind tower, maybe radio mast and power line pole. The road is approaching a bridge over a small river.
I am used maximum terrain emphasis, met station is in pale field with marker in white, road is across, river to the left running towards the back.
The ploughed area is the flat part of the land which is easy to plough, the hilltop, valleys not touched, presumably for pasture. This also makes sense because quite close is a grass airstrip, well this is called airport for some reason, and those need flat ground.
The effect is wrecking what could be a Class 1.
The effect of farming activity needs to be clearly researched and made clear before much can be said.

At first I thought you were being a tad too harsh Tim. But as a corn crop is centered around the hottest time of the year and corn fields tend to be very warm anyway then you make a good point.
I travel a lot by bicycle and with the speeds involved it is easy to feel the temperature differences on bare skin within a matter of yards even though the bike computer does not. Some places are naturally warm and others cooler.
Yes I am worried and I have considered.
I could state what I suspect is going on but that is unwise. Notice the variable situation ranging from eyebrow raising through to well managed.

If say farmland is normal for the region that is unnatural if it is cropping. We'll do maize this season. We can't see the whole range of what is being done..
In a few places heather might be acceptable but gorse is not. Grass is about the only cover most places, how rough, classification has grades.
The idea is creating a standardised reference area, not a microclimate nor any other local effect.
