My thanks to Michele Casati for drawing my attention to this video from NASA showing a double coronal mass ejection as comet Panstarrs passes overhead. This is more evidence for a link between sungrazing comets and CME’s last discussed here in late 2011.
It also ties in with observations and successful predictions made by NASA scientist Ching Cheh Hung in his 2007 paper showing a correlation between the motions of the inner planets and overall levels of solar activity.

Quite disturbing really. So if a lot of comets passed by the sun it would effectively shorten the sun’s life.

Back in about 2005 on another forum we checked out SOHO lots. One video was of a small body diving right into the Sun. As it hit, the entire Sun went bonkers, flared up BIG.
Was there any news on it? Not a chance.
Speculation: From that I would suggest it is possible that the comets we SEE are accompanied by fragments strung out ahead and behind – and that their impacts could be physically doing this.
Whichever of these, it simplifies our understanding of the Sun, if these things are not being generated internally. If they are just the Sun reacting, it is a whole new and simpler Sun.
It is amazing how often it takes science to ask the simple questions.

That’s a great video. I have a question. Do the comets disturb the electrical fields greatly? If so, is it also possible that small asteroids can leave a detectable trace in the Van Allen belts as they make a close encounter with the Earth?
The reason I ask is because I’m trying to think of a way in which multiple small rocks can be mapped as they fly past Earth in a hypothetical rock cloud along with larger, visible asteroids.
I would not think this is possible but I have seen how you can trace small movements in rocks using an electrical signature. So I am hoping it is possible. Thanks.
