Venus wind speeds increasing

A strange effect is reported in a paper about analysis of images from ESA Venus Explorer, which has been in orbit since 2006. The already very high upper atmosphere wind speeds have increased.

Why is not known.

I note a hint of a solar activity signature.

The solar cycles are everywhere: just saw it on the snow records of the American Rockies as per today’s WUWT whine from ski operators.

The Team must get very squirmy when then see 6, 11 and 22 year cycles. I don’t know why this 6 – 7 year cycle comes up, but you see it routinely as a sub-cycle.

(If it is the base cycle, would it be a “unicycle”?)

  3. tchannon says:

That would be a sunicycle 😕

  4. Tim,

Wouldn’t they also track global warming on Mars and Venus?

    Ghost.

Polar motion varies with a period of about 7 years.

Once you start measuring something routinely, it is not long before you find something “unprecedented”.

Climate psientists have made a good living out of this. Paid for by us.

Barely anything is known about Venus. Only probes to have reached the surface intact were Russian, to the obvious embarrassment of the US after they thought they would do better and failed. The EU are merely hanging around outside the door.

Chinese have done nothing. Yet. They will.
Japanese, you can never tell what they will do and on relatively small resources.

News: space vehicle launch list includes India launching their first Mars probe.

I wonder if it is caused by the ‘ballerina spin’ acceleration as Venus atmosphere shrinks due to lack of solar energy. NASA has shown Earths atmosphere has done the same, and this has meant they’ve had to adjust the orbits of satellites going faster because of the reduced drag.

Good old Sol is a powerful beast!
