Sure hope this is just one. Nope, 3 now reported. Deaths reported.

I’ve heard direct voice stating multiple are approaching. Streets “like a parking lot”.

Past, flooding and other damage, didn’t actual touch Oklahoma City.

Presumably this is the result of another wad of cold are down from the north meeting hot human air.

I remember some time ago having a long email chat with some people from the alley describing the trouble they get with severe electrical storms damaging equipment, something alien here in England, at least that severe.

    What are Long-Range forecasts for?
Forecast observers should note that WeatherAction LongRange forecasts are not an ‘early’ substitute for short range forecasts. They are intended to help decision making well ahead of events for which advance planning, like booking harvest machinery or gaining advance knowledge of likely energy prices, is a NECESSITY – in situations for which short range forecasts would be too late.

    New Oklahoma tornadoes ‘kill five’

Storm brings tornadoes, dumps heavy rain on Oklahoma, Missouri
A storm system that wrought havoc on the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, generating a handful of tornadoes that killed five people and sent tens of thousands scrambling for shelter, moved late Friday over Missouri.

The National Weather Service warned a “confirmed and extremely dangerous tornado” was near the city of Harvester, about 25 miles northwest of St. Louis.

(Reuters) – Tornadoes killed five people in central Oklahoma including a mother and her baby and menaced Oklahoma City and its hard-hit suburb of Moore, before the storm system tracked northeast early on Saturday.

Update at 3:30 a.m. EDT Saturday:
The threat for severe storms is coming to an end early Saturday morning.
However, severe storms are expected to fire up farther east on Saturday afternoon from Michigan to Texas.

As someone who lives where the humid air first comes ashore from the Gulf of Mexico, I can assure you that there is plenty of “fuel” to drive strong thunderstorms and their bastard offspring, tornadoes, wherever our humid air runs into some cool air.

  5. E Hughes says:

Was there a CME prior to this Oklahoma tornadic event ? Yes.
Was there a CME prior to the tornadic event in Moore Oklahoma last week? Yes
Was there a CME prior to the flash floods in Texas last week? Yes.
Was there a CME prior to hurricane Sandy ? Yes.
Was there a CME prior to hurricane Issac? Yes.
Was there a CME prior to the tornadic event.in Joplin Mo 2 years ago ? Yes.
Was there a CME prior to hurricanes Katrina and Rita ? Yes and Yes.
I could make this much list longer, but I think I’ve made my point. It puzzles me
that I’ve seen no correlation between major storms and CMEs anywhere on the
net. what’s up with that ?
    E.Hughes

  6. tchannon says:

You need to list all the events.
If this was an obvious connection it would have been long known.

In the case of tornado activity the conditions are set up days before by a wad of cold air exiting the Arctic[1]. When the edge collides with hot humid air from the Atlantic tropics, great atmospheric instability is present. Severe storms are normal.

How do the terrestrial effects of CME alter what happens?

    1. An excess of MPH during May has been documented by Leroux. The drawings and satellite images of the conditions leading up to the storms match.

  7. oldbrew says:

A point made to me by a friend in Houston years ago is that there are no major east-west mountain chains in North America, so rapid north-south temperature changes can easily happen and sometimes do.

I found this blog one day last winter looking for info on solar cycles-la nina/el nino, great site !

The timing of El Nino in relation to the solar cycle

I watch Solarham.net everyday and global weather sats and was amazed when I started watching major weather events happen after solar flares/CMEs. For example before hurricane Sandy there was an M9.0 on 10/20 and an X1.8 on 10/23. Both of those are on the top 25 list on Solarham.
Last winter I asked myself the question “Were there solar flares before hurricane Katrina and associated storms?” One google search provided the answer, yes there were. “41 major flares between 8/22/05 and 9/17/05 ” I was impressed,,
