hockeystickHere’s the BBC to tell us it wasn’t a scandal after all, as the scientists who admitted behaving badly by ignoring Freedom of Information requests, and other suspect practices, were really just innocent victims of ‘cyber terrorism’ and malevolent climate sceptics. What a surprise – not.

The Crown’s Jason Watkins will star as a professor who found himself at the centre of a media storm, says BBC News.

Hackers stole thousands of emails and documents from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit in Norwich in 2009.

Line of Duty actor Jason Watkins is to star in The Trick playing climate change scientist Prof Philip Jones.

Watkins said it was a “privilege to play the brilliant scientist… whose own world was so threatened”.

The Trick will tell the story of the professor, who was director of the Climatic Research Unit.

Prof Jones became the victim of cyber terrorism with leaked emails used by human-induced climate change deniers [Talkshop comment – BBC bias strikes again] to promote their view of global warming ahead of an international conference.

An independent inquiry was held after the false claims circulated that the unit’s scientists had manipulated data to exaggerate evidence of human-induced climate change. [Talkshop comment – false?]

The claims that the unit acted dishonestly were dismissed, but the scientists were criticised for a lack of openness.

  1. Coeur de Lion says:

Check Ross McKitrick’s comprehensive analysis of the five Climategate whitewashes. “Incompetent beyond parody”. Consider Mark Steyn’s collection of the opinions of a hundred world class scientists that concluded that Mann was ‘a disgrace to the Profession’.
For years now the lying BBC has been trying to rewrite Climategate- an example was ‘Climate Change – The Facts’ TV prog which paraded Mann with Attenboro’ and was widely laughed at. Why is this? Few taxpayers remember it. It must be some sort of irritating memory of their original misjudgements. Coupled to Harrabin’s famous denier’ conspiracy.

  2. Coeur de Lion says:

Further to. ‘A hacker stole’ is probably a lie. All the indications are towards ‘an insider leaked’. A hack is essentially a short term event- did an external hacker have the time to read/sort out the dishonesty? No, it was someone with a good internal knowledge of the UAE IT set up and of the inflammatory content. Sickened, he/she blew the gaff. Probably still employed, so mum. What fun when this Deep Throat confesses! I don’t think the Norfolk police tried very hard.

  3. saighdear says:

Well, is it by / for / about / with / the woke brigade: I don’t really want to know. “Sceptics picked up on a small number of emails that seemed to suggest scientists had been deliberately manipulating data” ….. see what I mean.

  5. BLACK PEARL says:

Must be nice to have a national broadcasting network at your disposal to promote your personal manipulated beliefs. No doubt Boris’s princess nut nut’s will approve.
All these so-called intelligent ‘expert’ people running around like crazed chimpanzee’s scaring the population for a non problem ? Or is it just to make sure the funding continues ?
    Give them a banana !

  6. bonbon says:

    Curious timing.
Likely to be used to ¨prove¨ Russia did it. And that just before a major Biden-Putin meeting.
I am sure leakers are aware of what Britain is doing to Wikileaks’ Assange at Belmarsh, and what happened to Seth Rich.

IMHO Jason Watkins is a fine actor who has portayed wrongly accused, diffident or quirky characters brilliantly but I feel this role is a poisoned chalice.

  9. Chaswarnertoo says:

Revisionist propaganda, from the BBC? Who’d a thunk it ?

  10. Ian says:

Somebody should produce a film on the Beeb’s distortion of truth.

  11. Tim Spence says:

Not a clever move by BBC, re-opening this can of worms could backfire big style.

  12. Phoenix44 says:

Anybody in science who talks about using a “trick” to “hide” something should be discredited. But apparently that makes you a hero.

If I did that in my old job, the FCA would have put me out of the job with a big fine.

But hey, that would have been a handful of investors hoodwinked, not the entire world.

  13. It doesn't add up... says:

As close to the truth as The Crown?

We know the BBC only does fiction. Is it true, or did you hear it on the BBC?

    Hi Tom
How come you do not agree with a statement that says we are no where close to knowing where
energy is going or whether clouds are changing to make the planet brighter. We are not
close to balancing the energy budget. The fact that we can not account for what is
happening in the climate system makes any consideration of geoengineering quite hopeless as
we will never be able to tell if it is successful or not! It is a travesty!

Scandalous! Maybe that’s the point coming from fearmongering clickbait artists lol

  17. Bazmd says:

I obviously mean the BBC and NOT all of the millions of scientists and engineers around the planet who rejoiced and breathed a breath of fresh air for once, when the “climate gate” scandal occurred. We all knew the storm was caused by civil servants that were bought and paid for to produce an outcome which was 100% political and that they left very little room for ACTUAL scientists and engineers. And so we kicked off too.

Some have learnt a lesson from the scandal, others unfortunately are doomed to repeat their mistakes. Again and again and again…

When they do, we’ll be here!

  18. Bazmd says:

And it was NOT “hackers” who realised the E-mails. 😉

    *released… Happy coincidence lol

No doubt like most piss yellow reporting that is put out these days, it will be morass of false flag propaganda from the Bul$ħit Broadcasting Collective.
Welcome to the real 1984, where the past is a variable and the future is certain.

  21. hunterson7 says:

I think “propaganda piece”, “cover-up “, “deceptive manipulative pap” all describe what the BBC is doing rather well.
BBC and most of movie making in general seem in competition to be the entertainment division of MiniTruth.

  22. I note that the writer: Owen sheers is the is penning this. He has form:

“Owen Sheers selects 10 writers shaping the UK’s future The author explains his choice of writers meeting the challenge of giving literary shape to the climate crisis, sexism, racism, inclusivity, and still making good art. More: http://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2020/may/23/owen-sheers-selects-10-writers-shaping-uk-future

I wonder if the BBC can be formally be requested to send the script for review, to ensure authenticity?

Perhaps Ross McKitrick would accept a role of script consultant, a role I understand is quite normal in historical or controversial productions.

    Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or
    first thing tomorrow.
I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual
land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land
N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999
for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
    Thanks for the comments, Ray.

    Cheers
    Phil
