Tallbloke talking about climate and energy on PlusNews live TV

Posted: October 23, 2019 by tallbloke in alarmism, Analysis, climate, Critique, Education, Emissions, Energy, fuel poverty, greenblob, IPCC

Yesterday I got the opportunity to have a relaxed climate conversation with Stephen Place, who presents the ‘Talking Yorkshire’ programme on PlusNews TV, a community based channel going out on 15 live platforms worldwide, youtube and on facebook. Make a pot of coffee and check it out.

I’ll probably be invited back, as it went down well with the producer too, so look out for future talking head slots.

Good PR for the sceptical approach there Rog.

    Re. Russian gas…

What is the real cost of cheap Russian gas?

Comment: Few people in the West think about the ethics of buying fossil fuels from Vladimir Putin’s Russia

Gazprom continues to seize the lands of the indigenous peoples of Yamal in an attempt to extract even more gas.

So much gas is exported that some Russians have to rely on coal burned in obsolete heavily polluting power stations.

PS Putin seems to be winning the anti-fracking propaganda war…

Is the future of fracking now in doubt?

    so many errors!
[Yes, you made quite a few here]

Roger is not a scientist – “I’m a qualified engineer and a graduate of the History and Philosophy of Science. I’m interested in finding out how the solar system works and how Earth is affected by changes in it”.
[Exactly as I stated in the video, correcting Stephen when he referred to me as a scientist]

Max size of thermal in uk is 1.2Gw
interconnector is 2Gw both direction currently france using uk output
french power can only replace 2 coal stations
thorium not tried nor tested so future only
[Exactly as I stated in the video]
    sea level rise currently 4mm/year
[Lol. No it isn’t. It’s around 1.6mm as I stated in the video]
Nord stream 1 and 2 gas from russia to germany no problem
[No problem until it is a problem; who has their hand on the valve?]
solar cycle has no visible effect on temperature
    [Lol. See following comment]
temperature has not levelled out according to satellite
[Not since the latest ‘adjustment’ anyway.]

Well done Roger. Balanced, comprehensive, encyclopedic, measured and love the Yorkshire accent.

  8. Roger, a bit disappointing that you acknowledge so-called “climate scientists”. These latter are not qualified to access climate or climate change. Thermodynamics and heat transfer are engineering subjects (see Chemical and Mechanical engineering Handbooks) and have been since the time around 1800 of Lazar Carnot (the father of Sadi Carnot whom some say is the “father” of Thermodynamics about 1830). Both father and son were engineers in French army and in civilian life. I have looked at some “climate science” courses -none I have seen teach Thermodynamics. The very name global warming implies heat transfer. Evaporation from the ocean and lakes and precipitation as rain, hail, snow and formation of clouds implies condensation. None of the shonks have the least idea about phase change in heat transfer. None understand the Stefan-Boltzmann equation which applies to surfaces in a vacuum.. They do not understand the 2nd law of thermodynamics or the 5th postulate of thermodynamics which some say is the third law of thermodynamics (relation between temperature, pressure and volume). I saw on a web site Dr Gavin Schmidt of NASA_Giss basically admit he did not know about the the dimensionless Schmidt number. In fact Niklov and Zeller in their paper say scientists do not know about Dimensional Analysis which is an important part of heat transfer in Chemical engineering
