UK Govt.’s Climate Assembly is anything but democratic

No great surprise there. As usual the idea is to demonize the essential trace gas carbon dioxide, paving the way to useless ‘solutions’ to an imaginary problem. Note: Attenborough is *not* a climate expert, and admits so himself.

The first two meetings of Climate Assembly UK, dubbed a ‘citizens’ assembly’ on climate change, have taken place in Birmingham over the course of a couple of weekends in January and February, writes Ben Pile (via Climate Change Dispatch).

The climate assembly has brought together 110 randomly selected members of the public to discuss a range of climate issues and policies with a range of experts, including David Attenborough.

The task of the assembly, which will meet over two more weekends this spring, is to decide on a set of recommendations for how the government can best meet its pledge to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The reason for establishing the climate assembly is clear enough. It is an attempt to exorcise the democratic deficit that haunts political environmentalism.

And it seeks to do this by involving a tiny, but supposedly representative sample of citizens in the policymaking process.

But can it really achieve its aim, given it excludes approximately 45 million other members of the electorate from its decision-making?

In short, no. Watching the proceedings of the first assembly, it became clear very quickly that the process is rigged in favor of the environmentalist agenda.

Expert after expert, each echoing the same message, made his or her presentation to the assembly. This was followed by a rapid question-and-answer session in which the assembled were told what’s what by said experts.

It didn’t look much like a democratic debate. It looked like instruction.

These shortcomings should not be a surprise, however, given the climate assembly’s origins.

A total manipulated propaganda farce paid for by ???

cognog – see the rest of the article.

Dig deeper and you discover that the majority of the assembly’s funding comes from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation (EFF) (which also funds Involve and mySociety), and the European Climate Foundation (ECF).

These are not neutral organizations. Both the EFF and the ECF are explicitly committed to promoting an environmentalist agenda.

As the ECF puts it on its website: ‘[We call for] the transformation of our systems and markets and the creation of a Net Zero society.’

@Oldbrew actually Ben Pile’s article originally appeared in Spiked.
It’s always best to go back to the original article

Re “The science is settled” excuse to exclude skeptic voices
.. You can’t exclude voices and then ask them to PAY in terms of increases taxes, prices and loss of freedoms.
“No taxation without representation” is the principle.

Peoples’ Assemblies is just the latest Alinsky form of *entryism* whereby Wokemob activists leverage power by using their minority to hijack the core of an organisation.

Au contraire, they are successfully implemented features of the plan.

When (and IF) this lunacy comes into force the only solution for those with access to a wood supply is to claim it is carbon neutral and use that for heating and cooking. Lighting could be achieved with tallow lamps.
There might be a price boom for cozy caves.
Those who live in the cities will freeze to death when the first cold, windless spell comes. They might be employed peddling a bike to generate electricity. That will warm them up enough to decorate Westminster Bridge with heads on pikes.

  7. stpaulchuck says:

it starts right off with two false assumptions: that humans are causing the warming, and that we actually need to do anything about it.

“and the creation of a Net Zero society.” translation: no more humans, it’s the only way.

No more humans, starting with the morons that believe this BS.

Voltaire once said, “If you wish to converse with me, define your terms.“ Like the politicians and bureaucrats who created the terms of reference for the IPCC and the UNFCCC, Voltaire understood how definitions direct and limit debates and ultimately control outcomes.

New UN Climate Change Report Cannot be Trusted

Just as the IPCC is not a scientific process due to a predetermined outcome, created by limiting the terms of reference, so the Climate Assemblies are not democratic for the same reason.

UK Chancellor just got fired, aka ‘resigned’.

Mr Javid rejected an order to fire his team of aides, saying “no self-respecting minister” could accept such a condition.

He has been replaced as chancellor by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rishi Sunak – who just seven months ago was a junior housing minister.

Mr Javid had been due to deliver his first Budget in four weeks’ time.

It appears that Boris is setting things up with George Soros and the merchant banks to take the UK back into the EU.
