White House to assess if climate change poses a national security threat

Earth and climate – an ongoing controversy

Another battle between artificial paranoia and natural common sense beckons.

The White House is working to assemble a panel to assess whether climate change poses a national security threat, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post, a conclusion that federal intelligence agencies have affirmed several times since President Trump took office.

The proposed Presidential Committee on Climate Security, which would be established by executive order, is being spearheaded by William Happer, a National Security Council senior director.

Happer, an emeritus professor of physics at Princeton University, has said that carbon emissions linked to climate change should be viewed as an asset rather than a pollutant.

The initiative represents the Trump administration’s most recent attempt to question the findings of federal scientists and experts on climate change and comes less than three weeks after Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats delivered a worldwide threat assessment that identified it as a significant security risk.

In late November, Trump dismissed a government report finding that global warming is intensifying and poses a major threat the U.S. economy, saying, “I don’t see it.”

Last month, his nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency, acting administrator Andrew Wheeler, testified that he did not see climate change as one of the world’s pressing challenges.

The Washington Post must have changed its mind about that story, or I need a paywall or something.

EU READY TO GIVE UP CLIMATE PLEDGE FOR US TRADE DEAL
Date: 20/02/19 Global Warming Policy Forum

According to reports the EU is preparing to negotiate trade agreements with the Trump Administration, abandoning its pledge to only strike trade deals with countries committed to the Paris Agreement.

right on (and thanks for the update). You just knew if PDT held his position that the EU weenies would cave when it came to trade. The whole world (pretty much) is linked now. If you chop off any of the major players you stand to lose huge amounts of money and put a big dent in your economy.

To top it off, most of the economic power players don’t believe this CO2 nonsense anyway and those that do look at it as just another profit opportunity even if there is no ‘green’ economy. If the temps go up there’ll be money to be made in dealing with it. Same for going cold. Amelioration of climate effects has HUGE profit potential so all this Agenda 21 posturing is a losing battle against a player like PDT.

I fail to see how any change in the climate would have any effect on national security unless they have a fear that the military are not prepared for the next ice age.

Those saying this are either completely brainwashed, in which case it is probably a security problem, or are on the make and working for the UN Church of Climatology one word government program, again a possible security problem which can be eliminated by removing them from any position of influence in the government.

THE CLIMATE SCALES IN OUR EYES
Date: 20/02/19 Dr David Whitehouse, GWPF Science Editor

Our recent graph of the global surface temperature this century (HadCrut4) and carbon dioxide in our atmosphere caused a few comments. This is what we published.

    . . .
You would not teach in Physics 101 that you quote a measurement of a continuous variable to one part in a thousand when its error is a hundred parts in a thousand, as is the case for HadCrut4.

‘Climate change™’ as used by the UN-IPCC faithful is a National Security threat! And it is a big one!
If the USA follows the climate change™ doctrine then deindustrialization is the path (the one UN advocates wish for). Follow it and within a few years the USA will not have the means to maintain even the most basic national security measures, with little if any industrial potential for building planes, ships, communication systems, or armament as and when it’s required.

The climate has always been changing. And from history we see that warm periods have usually provided the opportunities for human advancement, growth, and peace, whereas cold periods usually bring civil strife and national wars on the back of famine & pestilence.
In my view all nations are ill prepared for either scenario, I would also say global cooling is the more probable to happen than global warming. However the preparedness for a swift global cooling (within a lifetime) is particularly absent.

Ivan, it’s about what would happen in the world if the disaster scenarios spewed from the Church of Global Warming came true. It’s also about food production which would be an issue as growing moved north into Canada (a friend) and Russia/Siberia (not a friend).

Although tropical foods and fruits would be viable in North America and southern South America so that’s a useful trade-off. There could be massive people movement from drought stricken areas yet with hotter general climate one would think that more evaporation would occur followed by rainfall. Perhaps they are talking about shifts in rain patterns, some of which could be bad news for farming.

The rising sea levels scare stories ignore the fact we are approaching an asymptote of mean sea level as most of the massive ice accumulation of the last ice age is gone. Seas have risen some 350 to 400 feet and have tapered off to inches per century. [search out post-glacial sea level rise] Here’s one if it’ll post: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1d/Post-Glacial_Sea_Level.png/480px-Post-Glacial_Sea_Level.png

  8. ivan says:

stpaulchuck, the outlook you describe is totally illogical. Are you saying that people that are directly or indirectly part of the US government actually believe that junk science means anything or are they totally in thrall to the UN Church of Climatology and unable to think.

Oldbrew, we should leave dirty tricks to alarmists. I feel that Dr. Whitehouse’s graph is misleading. The graph limits for CO2 concentrations are arbitrary, without any explanation. With a lower limit of 0, the CO2 line would be almost horizontal. He wanted to get a strong effect, and he got it, but my ego itches.

  10. pochas94 says:

It’s because the Democrats are assembling a cadre of women for an assault on the Whitehouse, who love to tell everyone what to do, and their favorite doily is climate change.

  11. oldbrew says:

George: Whitehouse discusses the complaints in the GWPF link, and shows another graph.

If he plotted the Temperature in actual degrees C, F or K the temperature would be a straight line.
And degrees C is how we see the world, not in anomalies.

Alarmists try to make a big deal out of variations smaller than the range of the error bars.
